NOTE: We are seeking instructors who are both willing and capable of teaching specifically in First Nation communities across Alberta. The role involves travel and accommodation in remote areas, with daytime availability required from Monday to Friday.

Indigenous Partnerships & Engagement works within the department of Corporate and Continuing Education to bring educational training opportunities to First Nation, Metis, and Inuit Nations throughout Canada.

We are looking for a qualified instructor to teach our "Small Engine Repair" course. This course is designed for those with an interest in small engine repair, mechanics or maintaining equipment. We are looking for an expert contract instructor to educate hobbyists looking to improve their skills and knowledge. The course relates to a wide range of small engines including lawn mowers, snowmobiles, and garden tractors. We focus on small engine design, operation, service & maintenance techniques, repair, and troubleshooting. Graduates of this course will be able to identify engine components and delve into the principles of operation for both two- and four-stroke cycle engines. With the skills gained in this course, students will be able to employ shop safety practices, identify and use required hand tools and measuring tools, and apply systematic approaches to basic engine troubleshooting.

Contract Instruction Deliverables:

  • Utilize appropriate tools & equipment to instruct students & provide practical hands-on learning.
  • Maintain professional ethical relationships with students and colleagues; respond professionally to student issues and concerns.
  • Maintain student attendance and other documentation as required.
  • Having a degree of flexibility and fluidity that matches the needs of our Indigenous students.

Qualifications:

  • Certified Mechanic
  • Instructional experience considered an asset
  • Strong English verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • Excellent classroom management and instructional skills
  • A high level of independence is required.

Location: First Nation communities throughout Alberta.
