Position Summary:

Position: Firewater Technician

Type: Full Time

Location: CNRL - Horizon

Schedule: 7 on/7 off

Role Summary:

The Firewater Tech role consist of but not limited to:

  • Conducting Preventative Maintenance of Fire Hydrants and various Water-Based Fire Protection System
  • Perform Corrective Maintenance (repairs) to Water-Based Fire Protection System
  • Replace assets
  • Working in deep (12-20') underground installations & repairs
  • Working in Confined Space, elevated platforms, structures….
  • Working outdoors 100% of the time
  • Working with and around equipment such as Telehandler, EWP, loaders, excavators, HydroVac
  • Conducting Flow test of assets (energize, de-energize and winterize)
  • Installing contingencies

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintain great attendance, punctuality and fit for duty
  • Adhere to company and site rules, procedures and expectations
  • Conduct pre-use inspection of vehicles, tools & equipment as well as upkeep the conditions
  • Complete Field Level Risk Assessments and all other HSE requirements prior to starting tasks.
  • Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine layout of system
  • Report to Supervisor on shift
  • Measure, cut and install pipes using tools & equipment
  • Test pipes for leaks using air and water pressure gauges
  • Assemble and install valves (2" to 24") and components.

Education & Experience Required:

  • Journeyperson in Plumbing industry or pipefitter
  • Some Water-Based Fire Protection System experience preferred and previous oil sand industry experience would be a benefit
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License
  • CSO (Common Safety Orientation)
  • WHMIS 2015
  • Good mathematical, scientific, mechanical and logical reasoning abilities
  • Must be well organized and detail-oriented, are able to follow instructions and clear orders, enjoy working with a range of different people each day, and have strong mechanical skills.
  • Physical stamina required to use proper lifting techniques and execute tasks.
  • Must be able to stand, crouch and kneel for extended periods of time, sometimes work in cramped positions
  • Must have a safety conscious attitude
  • Ability to work well with co-workers and deal with clients
  • Ability to get along well with others on a work team
  • All applicants must have the ability to speak, read and write fluently in English.
  • Must be clean shaven
