Schedule: 7 on/7 off

Role Summary:

The Utility Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner. Heavy equipment may include excavators, loaders, dozers, graders, and other pieces of equipment. The Heavy Equipment Operator must also clean, maintain and secure all equipment as directed by legislation, as well as company policies and procedures. As an operator with the Special Projects division, the bulk of your work will involve road maintenance and may require labourer duties at times.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Operate all assigned equipment in a safe and effective manner
• Read, countersign, and enter comments into daily operator logbook
• Complete and document a pre-operational check on assigned equipment
• Grease equipment as necessary
• Ensure all equipment has proper safety equipment in place
• Keep interior clean
• Any required repairs to assigned equipment are communicated to maintenance personnel
• Maintain a cooperative working relationship with customers and other employees
• Participate in Job Hazard Assessments, Feld Level Risk Assessments, and line-up meetings
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Supervision and Site Manager

Education & Experience:

• Job requirements are listed below:
  • 2-5 years Heavy Equipment experience
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License is required, Class 1 or 3 is preferred
  • Clean 5-year Driver Abstract obtained within 30 days of starting work is required
  • One of the following basic Safety Orientations are required:
    • CSTS09 or...
    • OSSA Regional Orientation or...
    • OSSA BSO (Basic Safety Orientation before December 31, 2018) or...
    • CSO (Common Safety Orientation after January 1, 2019)

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds or more
  • Safety conscious attitude
  • Must be willing to work in fluctuating climates (hot, cold, wet) and environmental conditions
  • Must be comfortable working in close proximity to water
  • Ability to pass a Drug and Alcohol test and Fit for Duty test
    • Applicants are required to be clean shaven for testing and beyond
  • All applicants must have the ability to speak, read and write fluently in English
  • All applicants must be legally eligible to work in Canada
