At SMS Equipment, our Quality Assurance Inspector - Welding is responsible for the daily visual inspections and non-destructive examinations of heavy mining equipment. The Quality Assurance Inspector - Welding will conduct welding inspections ensuring they adhere to quality operational policies and procedures as well as customer specifications. This role is in Fort McMurray, AB.

The shift rotation for this position is 14x14.

The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $120,000 dependent upon experience.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) inspections on heavy mining equipment components.
  • Set up and calibrate inspection equipment.
  • Interpret or evaluate test results in accordance with applicable codes, standards, specifications, or procedures.
  • Continues learning and obtaining certifications (CGSB exams, NDT Courses, CWB)
  • Monitoring and inspect all work performed by welders.
  • Identify all non-conformance and recommend corrective actions.
  • Understand and complete work assignments as per company inspection procedures in a timely, effective, and competent manner.
  • Oversee repair and maintenance for equipment assigned and ensure related documentation is maintained.
  • Prepare inspection reports using computer software.
  • Responsible to report any unsafe work activities, hazards, or concern whilst adhering to all safety regulations and standards to maintain safe work practices.
  • Conduct quality control inspection during component rebuild or repairs.
  • Review the welding procedure specification and inspection requirements prior to welding.
  • Verify that the specified joint preparation and fit-up used prior to welding.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess 1 years experience in a Quality Assurance capacity to include QA systems, regulations, guidelines and standards. Other requirements include:

  • CGSB Magnetic Particle Level 2 certificate is required.
  • CWB Level 1 considered an asset.
  • 1 years experience in NDE testing or welding inspections in a field or shop environment.
  • Technical knowledge in NDT methods and procedures, and knowledge of NDT equipment
  • Welding Engineering Technology (WET) completion is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge in weld-mapping.
  • Proficient in using software such as Microsoft office (Word, Excel), Adobe, to prepare reports.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions and maintain a positive work attitude.
  • Ability to do physical work, work in tight spaces and working from heights.
  • Strong attention to detail required to provide thorough inspection observations
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively perform assigned NDT tasks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, and teamwork.
  • Participate in the Company's Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
