  • This position provides the option to work from home on Mondays and Fridays each week, with the requirement to report to the primary NOVA Chemicals work location on Tuesdays through Thursdays. Employees can opt out of the hybrid schedule and will be expected to work Monday-Friday from the primary work location.

We are currently seeking an Accountant to support our Manufacturing West Plant Accounting team. Reporting to the Manufacturing West Plant Accounting Coordinator, you will support the accounting related to the Western Olefins business within NOVA Chemicals. This would include, but not be limited to, inventory accounting, production, variable and fixed cost reporting, government reporting and audit support.

The preferred location for this position is Red Deer, Alberta. Calgary, Alberta would also be considered.

You Will Use Your Expertise To:

  • Independently carry out varied assignments requiring a broad application of GAAP/IFRS financial principles and internal policies and guidelines
  • Provide support related to cost accounting and reporting, including analysis of inventory, sales and fixed costs
  • Apply your understanding of the implications of changes in contractual terms affecting the Olefins accounting area
  • Perform coproduct cost accounting and reporting, including analysis of inventory, production and sales
  • Provide technical expertise and consulting to Accounting Services leadership and manufacturing teams to address financial and accounting issues
  • Fulfill requests for information with external and internal audit, ensuring compliance with internal control policy and processes
  • Prepare fixed costs and manufacturing cost reporting for a number of areas
  • Reconcile accounts of varying complexity; providing analysis for discrepancies and making adjustments
  • Complete ad hoc requests, as required
  • Anticipate and act on continuous improvement opportunities with the goal to create synergies, maximize our technological investment in S4HANA while following the values and practices of NOVA's Nature.
  • Support the plan to manage fixed and variable budget and forecast activities
  • Participate in benchmarking studies and other improvement initiatives
  • Work with the analysts within the Accounting Services team on variance reporting

What We Are Looking For:

  • University graduate or equivalent in a related field of study with strong accounting emphasis with 3+ years related accounting experience
  • Professional accounting designation is preferred
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
  • An aptitude to understand complex processes and computerized financial and operational systems
  • Proficient use of SAP and Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with and provide quality customer service to both internal and external customers
  • A self - starter with proven ability to establish and meet goals and deadlines
  • Ability to strive for results and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of company personnel including operations, commercial, distribution and other accounting groups, as well as both internal and external auditors.
