Purpose of this position

The Project Engineer is an integral part of the Engineering and Maintenance Team. You are jointly responsible for the safe and effective project execution of critical tasks required throughout a projects lifecycle to deliver projects within budget, schedule and quality.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop technical specifications in concert with Terminal and Global Engineering Teams
  • Develop and maintain overall project execution plans, risk assessments, schedules, costs, contracts and QA/QC programs including regular reporting of project status to key stakeholders
  • Coordinate activities between DP World Canada Operations/Maintenance, stakeholders and contractors.
  • Identify critical issues/risks within the project that could impact outcomes and develop mitigating action plans.
  • Conduct stakeholder meetings to solicit feedback and incorporate these into the project plans.
  • Provide field engineering/technical support to ongoing projects including schedule and progress tracking, change management, quality assurance construction and commissioning related.
  • Participate in troubleshooting and in providing engineered solutions including root cause analysis (RCA).
  • Review designs for compliance with engineering principles, company standards and requirements and related specifications.
  • Provide a strong field presence, conducting audits for compliance, safety and housekeeping; participating in contractor Tool Box Talks and Field Level Risk Assessments.
  • Ensure Document Control Integrity and Project Handover to Operations/Maintenance.

Qualifications, Job Function, Technical Knowledge and Skills

  • Post-secondary degree in a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Projects, Maintenance Engineering or a related field.
  • Previous experience gained in a unionized environment.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, MS Project and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems, such as Maximo.
  • Practical understanding of project methodology and delivery best practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated abilities working with consultants, contractors and trades, within a unionized and heavy industrial environment.
  • Outstanding analytical and problem solving skills, coupled with exceptional time management, organization, and planning skills.
  • Self-reliance with strong written and verbal communication capable of taking initiative and making decisions under time constraints.
  • A flexible team player who is able to work as required and willing to adapt to change.
  • Knowledge of the Container Shipping Industry and equipment is preferred.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Previous Canadian work experience or experience working directly with Canadian industries.
