Position Title: Refinery Gasoline Blender

Team and Location: Parkland Refinery – Burnaby, BC

Salary: $105,000 - $120,000 / annum

Position Summary:

Responsible for developing and executing production campaigns that ensure the consistent supply of gasoline barrels from the Burnaby Refinery to all customers (Retail, Commercial, Aviation, Third Party). These volumes account for over 50% of all product sold from the refinery, which is roughly 11 million barrels per annum or $1,400 MM in annual sales.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leads the development and execution of gasoline blending/scheduling plans for refinery blending and shipping operations ensuring that all products meet required specifications at lowest cost possible – total annual volumes amount to nearly 11 million barrels of production or >$1B in sales.
  • Provide direction and leadership to operating crews, laboratory technicians and technical teams daily.
  • Leads aspects of cross-functional blending team efforts in support of the Gasoline Giveaway Reduction Sustainability Plan, focused on achieving $3-5MM in annual savings through gasoline giveaway reduction.
  • Develops and optimizes turnaround import plans for gasoline during refinery outages thereby allowing PRBC supply to keep all sales channels supplied with fuel and achieve import uplift economics. Works in tandem with Senior HVP planner to complete.
  • Support profit and quality improvement projects, team and audits. Examples include the Tier 3 Tracking & Optimization Team, providing blend cases for potential scenarios.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Detailed knowledge of all blending and scheduling capability at the Burnaby refinery developed over >5 years.
  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering or Chemistry preferred. Candidates with similar skillsets or refinery experience will also be considered.
  • Understanding and ability to run models.
  • Organizational and prioritization skills – a demonstrated ability to multi-task and manage decisions with short deadlines and minimal supervision is needed.
  • Ability to work on own initiative to develop and implement innovative solutions to business and logistics-based challenges.
  • Experience leading cross functional teams (Operations, Laboratory, Supply, Technical) to deliver margin improvement and cost savings opportunities.
  • Strong analytical capability, experience optimizing systems, and ability to frame and solve complex problems.
