The Opportunity
McElhanney Ltd. has an opportunity for a Junior Civil Engineer or Engineering Technologist to join our team in Fernie, BC. In this role, you will have the opportunity to provide innovative and integrated consulting services to our public and private sector clients. We value flexibility, giving you the opportunity to support a range of projects, from hydrotechnical projects such as bank armouring, dike improvements, debris flood and flow mitigation, floodplain mapping to road rehabilitation/ reconstruction, municipal water and wastewater improvements in a unique resort community. In addition, this position provides a mix of office and field work, providing you the opportunity to support projects in various capacities.

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Provide design and construction management support for various infrastructure and land development projects including municipal engineering, road works, utility and facility upgrades
  • Assist in the preparation of approval, tender and contract documents
  • Preparing engineered drawings using Civil 3D Auto CAD design
  • Complete field inspections to monitor the quality and progress of the work being performed
  • Assist in preparing hydraulic river models, water distribution system models, and sewer system models
  • Prepare and adhere to site-specific health and safety plans
  • Opportunity to provide support to other departments (survey and environmental engineering) to learn about and develop a holistic approach to project execution
  • Work with other team members to ensure schedules, budgets, and quality control standards are achieved and maintained.

What You’ll Bring:
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or a Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from an accredited post-secondary institution with 0-3 years of related work experience
  • A self-starter attitude with a willingness to learn
  • Construction monitoring or field experience is an asset, but not required
  • High productivity, attention to detail, effective verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to work well in a team environment
