The Opportunity:
McElhanney Ltd. is actively searching for a skilled and driven Intermediate Biologist to join our team in either Victoria, Duncan, or Nanaimo, BC. As an integral part of our environmental team, the selected candidate will have access to support from over 50 experienced environmental professionals with diverse areas of specialization. In this position, you will be responsible for a range of tasks, including gathering baseline data, creating environmental protection plans, and conducting Environmental Monitoring for significant multi-disciplinary construction projects. We are looking for an individual who is motivated, experienced, and ready to contribute to our dynamic team.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • All stages of environmental studies from proposal preparation through data collection, interpretation, and reporting
  • Coordinating permits, licenses, and approvals
  • Design and implement terrestrial, an aquatic habitat mitigation and compensation measures
  • Coordinate subcontracting specialties as required
  • Environmental management, erosion, and sediment control design and monitoring
  • Provide environmental advice and solutions to guide design and assist with planning
  • Business development, and client relations
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Bring:
  • At least 5 years of experience within a similar role
  • University degree in Biology or a related field
  • RP Bio., or RB Tech,, or ability to achieve designation
  • Experience should include proposal preparation, aquatic or terrestrial habitat assessments, environmental monitoring, permitting, and reporting
  • Specialization in fisheries/aquatic sciences would be considered an asset
  • Ability to work independently and travel as needed for field work throughout British Columbia
  • Proven report writing experience, strong communication abilities and regulatory (Federal, Provincial) approval experience
  • Experience liaising with clients, First Nations, and government agencies
  • Proficiency with GIS, ArcMap, mobile data collection, and/or data management would be considered an asset
  • Possession of a valid BC driver’s license is required at the time of hire.
