EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY:

We are currently searching for a talented and enthusiastic individual to provide support to our senior engineering team across an ever-growing project portfolio. A Junior or Intermediate Technologist with a good understanding of AutoCAD, construction practices, and building science would be ideal but due to the current growth and diversity of our portfolio, we may also consider highly technical applications with various specialties, background, and experience in related fields. Expect the role to be stimulating and challenging because of the numerous daily demands that require adaptable and resourceful problem solving.

The successful candidate will work up to 40 hours per week, with opportunities for overtime based on demands. Work is project based. We offer a competitive compensation package that is based on experience, as well as a group benefits package, overtime pay, and an annual $500 recreational allowance.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Create detailed structural engineering documents for steel, concrete, and timber-framed buildings using Autodesk AutoCAD;
  • Develop finished drawings from general conceptual information and design notes;
  • Complete and maintain project documentation and file information;
  • Support project teams with drawings, quantity calculations, project coordination and assisting with design changes during construction;
  • Ensure quality control and accuracy of design for projects by maintaining design/checking notes;
  • Proactively and professionally communicate with project leaders, liaise with clients, contractors, consultants, co-workers, and the general public;
  • Work with architects, engineers, and contractors to resolve document coordination issues;
  • Support structural and civil senior engineers with construction inspections, survey, field services, and review shop drawings;
  • Perform a variety of defined assignments with independent judgment;
  • Proactively advise the team on technical challenges and troubleshooting.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

The dynamic nature of the projects we are involved in means you should be able to think on your feet and  be able to change track quickly and efficiently.  Project based design and construction management is fast paced with inherent pressures that are a normal part of the job. We have found it is extremely important to possess a positive attitude, an ability to proactively address issues or concerns in a constructive manner and to always work to maintain a supportive and inclusive work atmosphere.

Required Qualifications/Skills:

Your skills and experience should mirror or exceed the following requirements to ensure that you will be able to meet the demands of the position:

  • Diploma in Architectural/Civil/Structural/and/or Engineering Technology;
  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience in architectural and structural drafting or related field;
  • Proficiency with Autodesk AutoCAD;
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications;
  • Valid Class 5 BC driver's license;
  • Strong understanding of Building Codes, local regulations, and permit application processes with the ability to interpret and apply to drawings and practice;
  • Experience in field data collection practice and reporting;
  • Generate technical information with minimal guidance and supervision;
  • Use excellent organization and communication skills in all aspects of job performance;
  • Meet deadlines and work efficiently while managing multiple projects simultaneously; tre
  • Familiar with the use of MMCD and local government & provincial standards and bylaws;
  • Dependable and willing to work extra hours when required.
