The position can be remote or ideally based out of one of our offices in Kamloops, Prince George, or Salmon Arm, BC, however remote work from other locations in BC will be considered for the right candidate.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Operating within Forsite's Resource Management and Technology business area, the Wildfire Planning Forester will work within the Forsite Fire team, which includes Senior Wildland Fire Specialists, Fuel Management Specialists, Analysts, and other teams to complete projects for provincial and federal agencies, and community-level clients across BC and Western Canada. Projects will include developing fuel management prescriptions, supervising operational fuel treatments, supporting communities applying for and managing government funding grants to complete wildfire risk reduction projects, Community Wildfire Resiliency Planning, Wildfire Tactical Planning, and supporting a wide array of other wildfire analysis/planning projects. This position will require extensive knowledge of forest legislation & policy and landscape level forest management and wildfire management concepts to provide focused, innovative, and meaningful solutions to our clients. A background in forest operations and/or silviculture would be a distinct asset.

You should have strong problem-solving and written communications. Demonstrated experience in project management is important. Every effort will be made to align the successful candidate with projects and clients that they are passionate about.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • A safety conscious attitude;
  • Post-secondary education with a natural resource management focus;
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience in the forest sector, ideally including a mix of operational forestry, silviculture, and fuel management projects.
  • Registered or eligible to be registered as an RPF (BC and/or AB);
  • Experience facilitating or leading diverse groups;
  • Strong project management expertise and experience grant writing/managing funding programs in the forest sector,
  • Ability to both work independently on projects and collaborate within a team environment;
  • Strong technical writing skills, formal training in technical writing an asset;
  • Function background in use of GIS software (e.g. ArcGIS)
  • Background in fire suppression would be considered an asset
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving record.
