Reporting to the Senior Supervisor, Water Planning, the Lead, Water Planning is responsible for integrating water management into the business planning cycle in order to support risk mitigation and the sustainability of the operations.

This person has strong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills, and can schedule and prioritize competing demands in a fast paced and dynamic environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Lead the water management aspects as part of life of mine planning (long and mid range), including but not limited to: risk identification of new development areas, qualitative risk mitigation and semi quantitative analysis in coordination with the sustainable development teams
  • Coordinate with various internal stakeholders to identify risks and mitigation options for new proposed mine plans or expansion/amendment projects applying the closure strategy framework
  • Influence the implementation of best practices to support water integration
  • Develop presentations for various internal audiences, as well as memos and report documentation
  • Lead scoping studies for treatment mitigation projects in the five year horizon and develop processes to ensure the information is passed to the appropriate teams
  • Provide the technical inputs and ensure updated information is input into the financial basis of assumptions to support internal and external financial reporting
  • Continually improve existing processes to streamline decision making
  • Ensure management of change processes are followed and documented
  • Adhere to and follow EGBC guidelines

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Engineering or Geoscience, with Mining, Geological, Environmental, Civil, Water resources specialization or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Eligible for registration (within one year) or registered with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. (EGBC); Teck will support eligible employees with their EGBC registration
  • Minimum four years experience in the mining industry or similar industries, especially in coordinating roles
  • Strong digital proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite®: Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with Minesight or other similar mining environmental software is preferred

Salary Range: $103,000 - $127,000

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.

Successful candidates must be willing to satisfy the pre-employment requirements of a pre-employment drug screen and three professional references.
