Your future role on our team

BBA is currently seeking a Civil 3D Designer to join our Calgary or Edmonton office to support our projects in the natural resources and energy sectors, including renewables, mining and metals, pulp and paper, biofuels, oil and gas markets.
The primary focus for project work will be to prepare construction drawings infrastructure projects, including but not limited to, site civil (including wet utility design, site grading and drainage), roadway design and storm water basins/channels.

  • Prepare 3D models for earthworks, roadworks, drainage works and underground services
  • Prepare drawings and sketches
  • Communicate and coordinate with the mechanical, structural, electrical, and environmental disciplines on multidisciplinary projects
  • Convey results and findings by means of discussions, graphic-based presentations, and project documentation
  • Work with multidiscipline 3D model coordinators on Navisworks
  • Work with project teams to resolve existing design issues and suggest and apply corrective actions
  • Adhere to computer-assisted design (CAD) standards and templates specific to the discipline and ensure quality control
  • Design or redesign complex layouts and drawings from general written or verbal specifications from project team
  • Create and update design records database for future reference
  • Proficient in Civil 3D, Global Mapper or other GIS software, Navis works

Overview of certifications and job requirements

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, with demonstrated expertise in drafting/CAD technology or similar preferred
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience preparing design drawings (using Autodesk AutoCAD® Civil 3D®) related to site development)
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Familiarity with national and local codes related to site drainage and erosion control
  • Proven ability to read and understand both 2D and 3D drawings
  • Asset: Knowledge or understanding of the principals of surveying
  • Asset: Proficient in the use of ARC-GIs.
