In addition to the technical responsibilities inherent to this role, we are actively seeking individuals with experience and interest in project leadership roles, such as project discipline leads, project engineers, and project managers. At BBA, we expect our project leaders to undertake both technical tasks within projects and project management responsibilities to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the work being carried out.

With us, you'll get the opportunity to...

  • Lead the instrumentation and controls scope for projects or work packages, and be responsible for preparing budgets, schedule, and tracking deliverable progress;
  • Prepare and review engineering design packages including P&IDs, Instrument lists, datasheets, specifications, reports, calculations, location layouts, installation details, network diagrams, panel layouts, schematics, wiring diagrams, loop diagrams, bill of materials, and cable schedules;
  • Work collaboratively with clients, project managers, engineers, designers and drafters in preparing deliverables to BBA and client standards;
  • Participate in the design and integration of PLCs, HMIs, DCS, and communication networks, as well as programming and commissioning;
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals including scope definition, cost estimates, and schedules;
  • Conduct site inspections, testing, and commissioning at client sites

Overview of certifications and job requirements

  • Engineering Degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Instrumentation and Controls Engineering
  • 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Hands-on practical experience in programming control systems such as ABB, Honeywell, Schneider/Modicon, or Rockwell PLC products
  • Able to understand, review and prepare logic diagrams, functional specifications, control narratives
  • Experience with industrial network design and implementation including Ethernet/IP, Profibus, and Modbus
  • Hands on experience in troubleshooting, commissioning, and system installation
  • Experience with Mining, Industrial, or Energy sector projects
  • Able to work within scope, schedule, and budget
  • Able to travel the client site, both locally and abroad
  • Excellent communication skills with high competency in English (both spoken and written)
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Registered with EGBC as a P.Eng. or within one year be able to obtain registration

  • Annual base salary, based on 37.5 hours weekly, between $110 000 to $140 000 (the wage reflects the BC market and will be different for the AB market)
