The Opportunity
McElhanney is looking for an enthusiastic Water and Wastewater Process Engineer to join our growing Water Resources team based in Victoria, BC. The selected candidate will provide technical and process engineering support to plan and develop pre-design reports and undertake detailed design associated with a variety of small to large size water/wastewater facilities.

Our engineering teams have a track record of providing support to a range of rural and urban municipalities, so flexibility in the types of projects you undertake is central to success. You will support our projects through the design of water and sewer systems, and associated facilities including pump stations, water and wastewater treatment facilities, wastewater collection systems, reservoirs, water distribution systems, and stormwater systems. This role will require strategic understanding and effort to assist in continuing to build and grow our services in the Alberta and BC marketplace.

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Evaluate, select, specify, and engineer all process mechanical systems or products for the design and analysis of water and sewer piping, pump/lift stations, reservoirs, and treatment facilities for both water and wastewater.
  • Engage in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
  • Utilize technologies in development of three-dimensional models of process mechanical systems and provides markups for drafters and junior designers to prepare detailed design drawings, specifications and contract documents.
  • Prepare and review documents in various project phases including equipment sizing, facility layouts, mass balance, hydraulic analysis, diagrams and details.
  • Coordinate with electrical, mechanical, structural, civil and architectural teams to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Prepare effective proposals, liaise with clients, and find opportunities to leverage our inter-disciplinary teams to provide value-added services.
  • Understanding of Development Site Servicing Plan requirements and processes would be an asset.
  • Mentorship of junior technical and professional staff

What You’ll Bring:
  • Registration in good standing as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) in British Columbia. and/or Alberta.
  • Graduate degree(s) are an asset.5+ years of experience in rural and urban water and wastewater infrastructure including treatment facilities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are a must, with an emphasis on the preparation of technical reports
  • Experience with relevant Provincial standards, regulations, and approval processes for all types of utilities and water/wastewater facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of process mechanical systems
  • Experience with business development and proposal writing. Experience with multi-disciplinary team project delivery, as well as alternative delivery models.
  • Demonstrate a track record of maintaining satisfied clients and successfully pursuing infrastructure projects.
