The Opportunity:
McElhanney Ltd. is looking for a commissioned British Columbia Land Surveyor for our Whistler branch to manage a wide range of survey projects both locally and provincially. Survey projects are primarily Sea-to-Sky based and cover a full spectrum with no day the same. They typically include survey support on municipal infrastructure, construction layout for local development, ropeway (ski lift) design and construction, legal surveys on provincial and First Nations lands but then also some of the largest infrastructure projects in the province. You create your own opportunity, provide support to our geomatics team and advice to our clients. What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Experience completing various survey project types including legal, land development, infrastructure, topographic, engineering and construction layout
  • Work with a wide variety of clients to establish relationships and understand survey needs
  • Determine project scope, budget and schedule, project budgets and financial reporting.
  • Lead survey crews, communicate scope and scheduling information to client, crew members and manage project and/or client expectations accordingly
  • Prepare accurate plans by managing information flow from field through to final deliverables.
  • Ensure quality assurance procedures are carried out for proposals, field returns, drawings, legal plans, documents, proposals and other deliverables.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and training to assist with co-worker professional development.
  • Liaise with internal and external project teams and advice clients on property and legal survey matters.

What You’ll Bring:
  • BCLS accreditation is required and CLS commission is an asset. Commissioned Land Surveyors from other jurisdictions with intent to attain ABCLS commission will be considered
  • Diploma or degree in Geomatics with strong data processing/computations skills
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and leadership skills
  • Proficiency in computer applications (MSCAD or Civil3D and GNSS processing software at minimum)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Periods of travel may be required for the role
