At SMS Equipment, our Field Supervisor is responsible for the safe, efficient and economical operation of the Branch field department and related activities. The Field Supervisor position oversees a fleet of mobile service units that maintains and repairs all Komatsu and other OEM equipment as well as guiding, supervising and providing trades people with ongoing support in repair procedures and techniques. This position is in Winnipeg, MB.

The shift rotation for this position is 5x2.

The salary range for this position is $97,000 - $100,000.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ensures that operational requirements are met by supervising, coordinating, and scheduling the activities of trades people who repair and maintain Komatsu, Bomag and other OEM equipment.
  • Coordinate and assist outside vendors in performing miscellaneous tasks that are required in the field and ensuring they have proper orientation, qualifications, and site access.
  • Prepares and reviews SMS and Komatsu technical reports.
  • Monitors and evaluates the quality of work by performing follow up calls with the customer.
  • Prepare and process warranty work orders as per the manufactures policy and procedure manual guidelines.
  • Supplies job quotations when required using the eXtend.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by developing and enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Ensure all trades people are exercising safe procedures and that trade practices and regulations are followed.
  • Reviews work schedules to ensure manpower is allocated correctly.
  • Monitor the fleet of service trucks to ensure they are operating under the guidelines of the Federal Hours of Service Legislation.
  • Monitor fleet repairs and costs and report any unusual expenses to the Service Manager.
  • Resolve service problems by asking questions and clarifying the customer's concerns; determining the cause of the problem; explaining the best solution; making the correction or adjustment; and following up to ensure resolution.
  • Provide mobile repair service to customers and prioritize workload as it develops to reduce down time of equipment.
  • Administration of all Work Orders in the appropriate time times.
  • Ensure all Hazard Identification (SAT) cards are reviewed and signed-off.
  • Reviews and signs-off timecards.
  • Perform Pre-Job Assessments with technicians to ensure they understand expectations.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess a Journeyperson certification as a Heavy Equipment Technician as well as a thorough knowledge of maintenance and repair of construction and mining equipment. Additional requirements include:

  • Supervisory experience in an industrial environment is a requirement.
  • Several years' experience as a Heavy Equipment Technician.
  • Ability to oversee and coordinate a crew of field technicians.
  • Must be an organized individual, self-motivated and a self-starter.
  • Good computer skills with familiarity with MS Office.
  • Also requires knowledge of OH&S acts and regulations and equipment inspection requirements.
