The opportunity:

Reporting to the Facilities Cleaning Supervisor, the Facilities Cleaner Team Lead ensures the operation and efficiency of the Housekeeping Team's, cleanliness and upkeep of the YMCA facilities at the Saint John Regional Y. The Housekeeping team lead is a professional that ensures a positive overall impression of the property as well as providing the necessary service of ensuring a clean and well-maintained facility. The Facilities Cleaner Team Lead is required to maintain a flexible schedule that includes days, nights, holidays, and weekends.


Responsibilities:

  • Maintains a professional appearance with a positive attitude and is adaptable and flexible.
  • Is patient, helpful, and is interested in the welfare of the guests and staff.
  • Maintains the cleanliness, neatness, and organization of the housekeeping area.
  • Coach and instruct HK team with daily cleaning operations
  • monitor cleaning standards and direct HK team to areas needing attention
  • assist in staff schedule planning
  • assist in inventory control, monitoring
  • overseeing that HK tools/equipment are properly maintained
  • assisting in staff evaluations
  • Service, clean and supply locker rooms, public restrooms, etc.
  • Laundering of towels
  • Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them.
  • Gather and empty trash.
  • Clean and polish fixtures.
  • Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors
  • Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
  • Mix water and detergents in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
  • Steam-clean or shampoo carpets.
  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
  • Able to work efficiently and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Takes pride in a job well done.
  • Sets up and organizes all furniture and amenities in guestrooms according to YMCA of Greater Saint John standards.
  • Replenishes all supplies and amenities in guestrooms as required.
  • Transports trash and waste to proper disposal area.
  • Collects all recyclables and transports them to proper recycle bins.
  • Knows all safety, emergency, and accident prevention procedures.
  • Adheres to safety and security guidelines follows emergency procedures and responds promptly.
  • Manages and utilizes equipment in a safe manner.


Skills and qualifications

  • Cleaning experience in commercial establishment;
  • WHMIS training an asset;
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment;
  • Flexibility regarding assigned work schedule, including days, evenings and weekends;
  • Demonstrated ability to work alone or as part of a team
  • First Aid/CPR/AED
  • Available transportation between sites.


Required:

  • Employment is contingent on having a clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
