As a Manager Of Project Execution you will be responsible to lead a team of Project Managers/Project Leads, who are in turn responsible for the development and execution of small to large capital projects typically ranging from $500,000 to $100,000,000 in value within the Refinery. This role may also be responsible for managing a high priority program within the Refinery. Your goal will be to actively work with Project Managers/Project Leads to help ensure their projects are meeting scope, cost, schedule and quality expectations.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Actively work with Project Managers/Project Leads that report to the role to help ensure their projects are meeting scope, cost, schedule and quality expectations.

  • Develop the Project Managers that report to the role; help them build competencies they need for Project Management

  • Develop the Project Leads that report to the role; help them build competencies they need for progression into a Project Management role. Manage the project workload for the team along with the other Managers of Project Execution; reallocate resources as required.

  • Liaise with other parts of the organization involved in execution of projects - including but not limited to Engineering Services, Project Controls, Supply Management, Portfolio Management, Construction, Turnaround, Area Teams - to promote effective and collaborative working relationships.

  • Participate in process improvement initiatives.

  • Steward to Project Execution Business Commitments and KPIs, including but not limited to Cost KPIs, Schedule KPIs, project cost savings targets.

  • Work with Portfolio Management and Senior Management to help facilitate project approvals.

  • Escalate project issues to Senior Management in a timely and appropriate manner.

May be responsible for running a high profile program including

  • working with other groups in the refinery to define the program scope

  • preparing short term and long term plans for the program

  • preparing for and running Steering Committee meetings

  • program reporting through to management

  • working with Project Managers running the projects within the program to ensure the projects meet the overall goals of the program

May be responsible for overall coordination with Turnaround for the Project Execution group:

  • Prepare capital project updates for TA working group, including alignment with Engineering Services

  • Administer the approval Turnaround Capital Projects List; lead update meetings.

  • Lead the development of approved capital projects lists for future Turnarounds

  • Maintain Turnaround P2P (Plan to Plan) Milestones and Risk Registers for capital projects being executed in the TAR event.

  • Work with Project Managers to ensure projects are being run effectively and efficiently in line with TA milestones

  • Promote Turnaround Excellence focusing on continuous improvement in P2P compliance, reporting and scheduling visibility.

Your Skills:

  • Strong financial acumen to manage project budgets, typically for capital projects.

  • Able to provide direction to different team members while working on multiple projects.

  • Flexible working style to adapt quickly to changing priorities, unforeseen circumstances, and tight timelines; able to redirect the focus of the team quickly.

  • Strong communication skills; written, oral, and presentation skills.

  • Proactive mindset; always searching to identify possible issues from multiple areas and developing plans to mitigate.

Your Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree, technical degree and/or industrial trade.

  • Project Management Professional designation an asset. On-the-job Project management experience and mentorship.

  • 10+ years project management experience or business-related work experience as per below:

  • 10 to 20 years technical refinery or other energy/heavy industry experience, working maintenance or T/A projects.

  • 5 to10 years team lead/supervisor/management experience in refinery or other similar energy industry
