(Permanent Position)

DUTIES

Reporting to the Department Head, Civil Engineering, the successful applicant will be responsible for the development, preparation, maintenance, and operation of equipment and facilities for teaching research and outreach activities in civil engineering laboratories. The successful candidate will work closely with the faculty, students, and other staff to facilitate teaching and research activities. Duties include the planning and use of computer controlled hydraulic systems, instrumentation, data acquisition, load cells, strain gauges, accelerometers, LCDT's, hand tools, overhead cranes and other facilities in the Department of Civil Engineering; adhering to health and safety regulations and carrying out related responsibilities; and performing other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Thorough experience (5 to 7 years) at a skilled level in a mechanical engineering or an industrial environment ; preferably in a University, research laboratory setting, or related environment, involving the operation, installation, and maintenance of complex technical equipment; graduation from high school supplemented by the successful completion of an approved three-year technology program in Instrumentation, Electronics Engineering Technology, or other cognate area; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Experience with data acquisition, servo-hydraulics systems, and instrumentation is required. The ideal candidate should demonstrate an interest in contributing to the operations of a civil engineering laboratory, particularly in conducting experiments related to concrete, steel, and soils. The successful candidate must be a team player with excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills, as well as the ability to interact with faculty, staff, and large groups of students with diverse backgrounds/skill levels (from first year to postgraduate).

SALARY $62,206 - $70,273 per annum (CUPE Local 1615)
