Irving Shipbuilding Inc. is seeking a high performing Director, Facilities with energy, drive and ambition to join our Senior Leadership Team, proudly building naval ships for Canada, in North America’s most modern shipbuilding facility. The Director, Facilities will report to the President, Irving Shipbuilding Inc. They will be responsible to lead the Facilities team as it oversees and manages our multi-site facilities to ensure their reliable, efficient operation, directs the preventive and predictive maintenance programs and coordinates our annual capital enhancement plans.

This is a permanent full-time role based in Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia. Qualifications:

  • Education: 
    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration or equivalent experience.
    • Master’s level degree in Business Administration would be considered an asset.
    • Project Management Professional designation would be considered an asset.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 - 15 years of relevant experience including progressively senior roles managing people.
  • Demonstrated project management experience undertaking complex, multi-discipline capital projects.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders and achieve required objectives.
  • Demonstrated effective organizational problem-solving, planning and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated use of sound judgment and reliable decision making.
  • Strong organizational skills and a high degree of self-motivation and business acumen.

All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and oversight to the Facilities and Maintenance teams at our four locations to ensure their efficient operation and that annual objectives are achieved.
  • Accountable for the development and execution of reliability and maintenance programs to ensure all facilities and critical equipment support ship repair, design, and construction.
  • Develop risk mitigation plans for critical infrastructure and equipment.
  • Coordinate the assignment of work to third party contractors as required.
  • Responsible for the Sustaining Capital Program at Irving Shipbuilding.
  • Participate in the long-term capital plan for Irving Shipbuilding facilities.
  • Develop department goals and annual budgets that align with strategic plan.
  • Develop department key performance indicators and department performance metrics.
  • Ensure all facilities comply with relevant laws, regulations and occupational health and safety standards.
  • Support the development and growth of team members to ensure high level of technical and project management competence.
  • Accountable to develop and oversee department budgets.
  • Establish cross department relationships to maximize department effectiveness.
