Position Overview:

Responsible to the Manager, CH149 Engineering for the conduct of Engineering Support, Repair Design and Life-Cycle Management of CH149 Cormorant airframe and aircraft structural systems, including monitoring of performance and maintenance requirements and the recommendation of improvements as necessary to optimize life-cycle costs.

What You Will Do:

  • For structures systems, conduct activities associated with implementing and monitoring corrective actions in response to in-service difficult reports, flight safety reports, special inspections, service bulletins and irworthiness directives.
  • Coordinate the delivery of technical advice to Main Operating Bases (MOBs).
  • Design and develop standard and non-standard repairs.
  • Conduct and/or peer review/check structural analyses of repairs and modifications.
  • Conduct effective communications and act as liaison on technical matters with representatives from MOBs, Department of National Defense (DND), Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), Design Support Network (DSN) elements, and Design Authorities.
  • Conduct and support the assessment of airworthiness risk on the aircraft structure including preparation and review of Airworthiness Impart Assessment (AWIAs) and Records of Airworthiness Riks Management (RARMs).
  • Prepare and review engineering reports, technical memoranda and technical directions.
  • Provide support to the configuration management and data management activities of the department.
  • Perform airworthiness functions as a recognized Design Engineer (DE) when authorized.
  • Review and approve engineering data within assigned scope of approval.
  • Support engineering special projects and initiatives as requested.
  • Support the activities of the department in respect to maintenance program monitoring, maintenance rationalization, and maintenance requirements analysis.
  • Support identification of performance criteria/objectives for CH149 aircraft structures, in-service performance monitoring to these criteria, and technical investigations to identify and correct deficiencies or reduce life-cycle cost.
  • Provide guidance to junior staff as required.
  • In extraordinary circumstances and when required by operational necessity, provide weekend and after-hours support to SAR Ops.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

What You Will Bring:

  • B.Eng. or B.Sc. (Eng.), or CET (Diploma in Engineering Technology), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer is desirable.
  • Knowledge of rotary wing airframe and aircraft structures.
  • Possess clear and effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks.
  • Knowledge of CH149 airframe, systems, drawing system, technical publications and Electronic Record Keeping System (ERKS) is desirable.
  • Knowledge of airworthiness regulations and standards, and military aircraft modification processes is desirable.
  • 4 or more years' experience in an aircraft engineering environment.
  • Sound interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with people at all levels, both within the organization and those in outside agencies.
  • Must be self-motivated and possess good self-discipline with an ability to work independently when required.
  • Must possess an ability to logically assimilate information and identify related causal factors, as well as to effectively prioritize multiple tasks.
