The Opportunity

We are currently looking for a Mechanical Trades/Utility Coal Supervisor to join our Power Production team in a permanent position. Reporting to the Operations Superintendent, you will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of coal operations at Lingan Generating Station.

Key elements of this role include:

As a Mechanical Trades/Utility Coal Supervisor:

  • You will lead the Coal Services team and a Maintenance Team in the functions of coal unloading, coal hoisting, coal sampling and coal system maintenance.
  • You will work effectively with the team on coal transfers, coal system maintenance and scheduling for the plant.
  • You will be responsible for ash silo operation, maintenance and interaction with the contractor responsible for ash placement on site.
  • You will be responsible for managing safety, leading safety meetings, and ensuring employees are adequately trained and motivated to complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • You must be committed to the site safety program and pro-actively manage safety performance and culture.
  • You will provide leadership, supervision and development of the Coal Services team, Maintenance Team, co-ordinate with other shifts and departments and maintain compliance with environmental regulations.
  • You must demonstrate your ongoing commitment to and participate in the capabilities and leadership development processes.
  • You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of your co-workers by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.

This position is considered a safety sensitive position. As such, the successful candidate must comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy which requires a confidential pre-employment alcohol and drug test in accordance with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Procedure.

  • You must possess a Grade XII as well as being an experienced leader within a coal facility.
  • You must be a strong advocate for safety, with a demonstrated track record for enhancing an organizational safety culture.
  • Certification, diploma or trade would be considered an asset.
  • Applicants demonstrating an acumen for working in a fast paced, multi-faceted, service orientated heavy industrial operation would be considered an asset.
  • You must possess strong oral and written communication skills, good interpersonal skills and be able to function effectively in a team environment.
  • You will be a self-starter with proven organizational and analytical skills with demonstrated multi-tasking abilities.
  • You must possess strong computer skills. You will demonstrate your commitment to personal development and proactively developing the skills of the coal services team.
