Heavy Equipment Operator

Det'on Cho Construction is recruiting for Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. Under the direct supervision of the Construction Manager you will be operating equipment such as D6 Dozers, Track hoes, Rock Trucks, loaders.

This position is located just various locations of Yellowknife area.

Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following:

• Have a valid Class 5 driver's license, provide a driver's abstract
• Minimum 2 to 5 years experience operating an excavator/ dozer;
• Tickets are an asset, but not required (Ground disturbance level 2, Standard First aid, H2S alive, WHIMIS, TDG)
• Experience adhering to health and safety requirements;
• Reliable: show up on-time and be fit for work;
• Position requires a high level of initiative and a positive attitude, including willingness to tackle new tasks or duties outside of this description; and
• Work safely and be willing to wear the appropriate PPE required for the situation( Half mask for dust, Tyvek coveralls, hard hat)
• Professional when dealing with customers, staff and subtrades/suppliers.

The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for:

• Work at or near bodies of water and uneven terrain;
• Backfill and final grade excavations;
• Load gravel trucks and/or rock trucks;
• Excavate clean and impacted soils;
• Strip topsoil and subsoil contour and replace soils at required depths;
• Pile, stack, load and unload materials
• Fuel, grease and daily maintenance of equipment;
• Report any repair issues or equipment hazards immediately to supervisor;
• Communicate any unsafe conditions or incidents, near misses to the Supervisor in a timely manner;
• Other general duties, as required.
