We are looking for a Survey and Drafting Team Lead responsible for delivering survey and CAD services for the Projects Engineering group. The role includes survey pickup, design, review and layout of engineering designs, preparation of project status reports, record drawings, project cost estimates, schedules, materials management, and assisting project management staff with safe and effective execution.

This is a unique opportunity to be a part of the Capital Projects and Closure team at Diavik as we deliver large scale progressive reclamation projects along with new and exciting construction projects.

Reporting to the Superintendent, Engineering and working in a rugged environment, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing and/or implementing cost effective and NWT Mines Act compliant earthworks designs for mine site infrastructure such as roads, laydowns, pipe benches, dam embankments and aggregate stockpiles via Autodesk Civil3D software suite.
  • Managing the day-to-day work plan for the survey team including Grads/Co-op Students.
  • Coordinating with external survey resources and engineering consultants for the on-time delivery of accurate as-built record information.
  • Participating in risk assessments.
  • Tracking and reporting stockpile volumes.
  • Assisting with preparation of budgets and schedules.
  • Preparing project survey files and construction signoffs.
  • Field coordination between engineering, construction, and QC.
  • Maintaining clear file administration.
  • Monitoring project progress against budget and forecasted schedule.
  • Maintaining effective and on-going communications with the surface operations team and contractors concerning issues and challenges.
  • Providing input during the review of contractor progress payments and claims process.

What you'll bring

  • Diploma in Drafting, Civil, Geomatics, Mining or Forestry Technology.
  • 5 or more years of experience in construction, civil earth works or civil infrastructure design.
  • Experience supervising technical staff and contractors is desirable.
  • Have or be eligible for a Northwest Territories Mine Supervisor Certificate - Level 1 or 2.
  • Highly developed skills in GPS survey, Autodesk Civil3D design and drawing development.
  • Proficient with programs including Civil3D, MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Experience with drone survey data acquisition and drone operation.
  • Knowledge of construction survey, scheduling and cost control.
  • Ability to work long hours in a remote and rugged environment (2 weeks on/off.)

Northern residency and experience working in a cross-cultural environment, coupled with knowledge of the unique challenges and opportunities presented to those living in the North, are assets.
