Underground Automation & Instrumentations Equipment Maintenance Technician

About the role

We are looking for an Automation & Instrumentation Equipment Maintenance Technician to be part of our Underground Fixed Plant Asset Management department. The position is based in the underground mine. The technician will work a 12 hour shift rotating days and nights.

Reporting to the Underground Fixed Plant Maintenance Supervisor, the Automation Maintenance technician provides electrical/instrument support in response to operational changes resulting from the malfunction, breakdown, relocation, replacement or installation of new equipment associated with the autonomous equipment in the underground mine. The Automation Equipment Maintenance Technician is also an instrumental part of the planning team during the installation or modification of new or existing equipment.

  • Install, troubleshoot, design, commission, and maintain all control systems, electrical, motor control, radios, and solid-state controllers associated with the Tele-remote Systems.
  • Work with operations assisting in the daily operating needs of the field.
  • Maintain equipment, parts, and supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed equipment parts, and supplies, placing requests with the planners and follow up on deliveries when required.
  • Perform machine ownership responsibilities on assigned equipment to exceed expectation of ensuring equipment is in proper working condition to meet safety, quality and productivity expectation.
  • Communicate with your immediate lead hand or supervisor on daily activity and any issues whether positive or negative to ensure a healthy work environment and continuity between technicians and crews.
  • Demonstrate leadership through direction and guidance of daily activities.
  • Address and mitigate safety/environmental risks to ensure all daily safety protocols are being met
  • Deliver and support operational technology in support of business objectives at Diavik.
  • Maintain excellent documentation including but not limited to work orders, commissioning documentation, daily reports, as-builts, status reports, safety and maintenance programs, JHA, SOP and Preventative Maintenance documentation;
  • Clear and effective communication with onsite departments, in house expertise as well as equipment suppliers/field service technicians;
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental policies and procedures;
  • Work and Promote Safety within the underground fixed plant department.
    • Meeting your personal safety plan commitments.
    • Immediately reporting all incidents and accidents to your immediate supervisor.
    • Working to achieve or exceed the site and departmental safety goals.
    • Foster and develop a safety culture within the processing plant.
    • Use a safe working attitude when performing tasks
    • Complete a JHA prior to performing
    • Actively participate in the morning pre-start/LEAN meeting
  • Complete other related work as assigned by the Fixed Plant Maintenance Supervisor, Lead Hand, or Senior Managers
  • Operate mobile equipment - specifically aerial work platforms and scissor lifts, tele-handlers, front end loaders as required.

What you'll bring

To be considered for this role, you will have:

  • Interprovincial red seal Instrumentation or Industrial Electrician ticket, job specific experience will be taken into consideration
  • Advanced understanding of process system automation, PLC Controls, Fixed plant, Mobile equipment and motor control systems;
  • Excellent knowledge and troubleshooting skills in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code and Mines Act;
  • Minimum 5 years' experience working with Atlas Copco ST14 tele remote systems in a large-scale underground mining operation.
  • Current St. John's Ambulance Standard First Aid Certificate with CPR is an asset.
  • Excellent oral, written and active-listening skills
  • Highly effective organizational, time management and analytical skills
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently and as part of a team
