Job Description Summary

The Resident Technical Advisor (TFA) will be assigned to a service agreement between Bruce Power (BP) and GE Vernova to provide technical field expertise and engineering support of operating units for activities but not limited to, maintenance activities, system operation, technical advice, and urgent response to unplanned failures providing support of technical knowledge and documentation support.

The Resident TFA reports directly to Bruce Power Maintenance Organization, but also supporting Bruce Power Engineering, to provide technical expertise on the Steam turbine and auxiliary systems.

The base duration of this assignment is for a period of three (3) years beginning June 2024, through
to the end of 2027. The successful candidate to reside locally in the Tri County (Bruce, Grey and Huron counties). Relocation support is available.

Job Description

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Act as main communication liaison to offsite GE engineering staff, technical centers, and all other GE Steam Power representatives during normal system operations as well as urgent plant conditions (forced outages, abnormal system operations etc)
  • Lead GE TFAs, GE contractors and BP employees during planned and unplanned outages.
  • Performance monitoring activities of system operation and identification of adverse operating conditions through data analytics and diagnostics
  • Communicate GE industry wide operating experience (OPEX) and lessons learned from other GE customers
  • Support in defining & adjusting maintenance strategies, develop work instructions and field procedures
  • Support Bruce Power training organization, as required, during training sessions to Bruce Power workers
  • Provide written and verbal TFA recommendations as required
  • Sign off required execution procedure steps assigned to GE TFA, this also includes review and acceptance of all test certificates. Test certificates outside of tolerance will be presented to BP for acceptance.
  • Support systematic approach to technical problem solving (SATPS) and associated field activities
  • Support functional organizations (i.e Procurement, Supply Chain, Engineering) in identification or replacement parts, overhaul, and repair of parts
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of equipment obsolescence, current and projected, based on GE industry knowledge, and make recommendations to BP on replacement strategies
  • Involvement and assistance in projects and other improvement initiatives
  • Development of critical spares list and monitoring of procurement status

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university with 5+ years of experince in power plant maintenance, GE Steam Turbine Generator maintenance or outages, or Power Plant or Nuclear Power Plant equipment installation/commissioning; or a High School Diplomas / GED with 9+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Ability to work 100% at customer site.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian driver's license.
  • Ability to gain unescorted access to a nuclear power facility in Canada.
  • Successful completion of required training programs is a minimum requirement.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Demonstrated progressive, responsible experience with various types of equipment and site accountabilities is required.
  • TFA must be sufficiently qualified to perform services and able to effectively communicate in English
  • Ability to understand and follow P&IDs and mechanical drawings
  • Wide degree of creativity and latitude when solving complex technical problems
  • Strong analytic, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent customer, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan, accomplish goals, and best practices
  • Ability to work independently

Employment is contingent upon acceptable results of your pre-employment background and drug screening (to be taken within 48 hours of your receipt of the test paperwork). You may receive specialized classroom and laboratory training to prepare you for your assignment. You will be expected to complete periodic training to meet competency requirements for the position. All training courses attended must be successfully completed as a minimum requirement for employment.
