Your Opportunity

Reporting to the Coordinator, Facilities & Maintenance, the Facilities & Maintenance Operator will be responsible for maintenance duties contributing to overall presentation and cleanliness of Conservation Halton parks.

  • Perform maintenance and safety checks of infrastructure including buildings, pathways/roads/parking lots, visitor facilities, lighting, grounds, and signage
  • Identify building/infrastructure issues and communicate to supervisor in a timely manner; troubleshoot problems with drinking water systems, HVAC, plumbing and minor electrical, with a high priority on guest and staff experience
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of facility improvement projects
  • Support with setup, take down, and maintenance required for programming, experiences, and seasonal activities taking place across CH parks
  • Support with maintaining inventory of required supplies, and safekeeping of all maintenance equipment, tools, materials, and supplies
  • Assist with maintenance of small drinking water systems throughout the parks, completing daily records, and water samples when applicable
  • Support the Coordinator, F&M with recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of staff and volunteers
  • Support with departmental workplans and budget forecasting for seasonal staff
  • Acting Day Manager of all CH parks required on rotation
  • Operation of snowplows and sanding equipment during the snow season including weekends.
  • Perform duties and ensure assigned staff and volunteers work in accordance with Conservation Halton’s Safety Policy and Procedures and in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations
  • Other duties as assigned

Your Qualifications

  • Hands on experience in two or more of the following: Plumbing, Rough and Finish Carpentry, Electrical, HVAC systems
  • Licence and/or certification in related trade(s) or 2 years experience in an infrastructure maintenance related profession and/or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Experience operating small and/or heavy equipment: Tractor, skid steer, plow/sanding equipment, scissor/boom lift, various mowers.
  • Ability to operate standard construction tools such as saws, planners, nailers, etc.
  • Minimum secondary school education/diploma required
  • Ability to work in a variety of outdoor conditions and adapt to the daily challenges associated with day-to-day operations
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to provide effective communication to staff, contractors, and guests
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Ability to develop, foster, and sustain effective working relationships with external departments and Conservation Halton staff
  • A valid Ontario Drivers License, minimum Class “G2”, with a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract is required
  • Able to lift up to 60 pounds, stand, and walk for long periods of time
  • Customer service skills are an asset, ability to provide effective communication to guests
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Outlook, Teams, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • First Aid & CPR training is an asset
  • “Safe Drinking Water Systems” Certified Operator is an asset
  • Building Environmental Systems Operator Level II Certificate is an asset
