Job Description

We are looking for a Manager of Quality Assurance & Quality Control at our Walker Emulsions Division Production Facility - Burlington, ON location.

MANAGER OF QUALITY ASSURANCE & QUALITY CONTROL

Reporting directly to the Manager of Innovation and Research & Development, you will oversee, manage, and direct the quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) programs for the company. You work in close collaboration with Operations to ensure that quality assurance becomes fully integrated within production. You will work to address customer concerns, quality concerns, regulatory requests, and other technical service (WO) projects that require input from a QA/QC perspective.

In this role, you will be…

  1. Overseeing all aspects of the company's QA/QC efforts across all three production sites (Burlington, ON; Orangeburg, SC; and Portland, OR). Managing, administrating, and continuously developing the QA/QC program. Training and mentoring direct reports and other staff involved with the program.
  2. Managing quality control of all products produced at all production sites. Monitoring, reporting, and directing quality through Statistical Process Control (SPC). Utilizing SPC and process indicators to complete and interpret control charts and monitor and react appropriately. Proactively managing specification limits for all projects and investigating any reported cases of non-control and non-compliance.
  3. Managing quality assurance of all products produced at all production sites. Monitoring, reporting, and directing quality through Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Developing SOPs, quality standards, and training programs. Proactively managing product quality for all products by implementing quality assurance measures throughout the entire production life cycle.
  4. Establishing strategic plans, policies, and procedures at all levels so quality improvement efforts will meet or exceed internal and external customers' needs and expectations.
  5. Managing, mentoring, and developing Technicians and Chemists on the QA/QC team.
  6. Ensuring adherence to the Walker Emulsions Quality Management System (QMS). Performing quality control audits to ensure standards and identify areas for improvement.
  7. Coordinating product documentation: Certificates of Analysis (CoA), Technical Data Sheets (TDS), and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  8. Supporting process improvement, process optimization, product optimization, and new product scale-up projects.
  9. Maintaining high levels of understanding of statistical processes and best practices of QA/QC. Providing internal education on QA/QC.

SKILLS

  • Advanced numeric skills to interpret statistical information to develop reports and presentations.
  • Ability to oversee, mentor, and develop staff and to provide constructive performance feedback.
  • Advanced ability to identify, analyze and resolve problems, at times, complex and abstract in nature.
  • Superior knowledge of health and safety and environmental regulations legislation.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience: 5 years of experience in the chemical manufacturing industry
    • Preferred Experience: Experience in quality assurance and quality control laboratory
  • Education: Minimum B.Sc. degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
    • Preferred Additional Experience: Post-secondary studies in chemistry, chemical engineering, and especially quality control would be an asset. As would experience with Statistical Process Control, Total Quality Management, Six Sigma, Project Management, or other manufacturing programs.

TRAVEL

  • Regular travel (a few times per year) will be required to support the QA/QC Program in Orangeburg, SC and Portland, OR (direct reports at all three sites)
  • Additional occasional travel may be required to travel to customer sites to consult, advise, and oversee.
  • Travel will be necessary and will require a valid passport required for travel outside of Canada.
