Job Profile

We are currently accepting resumes for Temporary Labourer positions commencing April 2024.
Following submission of applications, the selection process outlined below will apply. Please note, only those applicants selected to interview will be contacted; however, applications will be kept on file for an additional 6 months and will be considered for any vacancies that may arise throughout the season.
Stage 1 Screening of Applications:
Screening will take place December 2023/January 2024.

Stage 2 Interviewing Applicants:
Interviews will take place in January/February 2024.

What you will be doing

Parks positions:

  • Grounds maintenance such as: pruning trees and shrubs; grass cutting; trimming; digging; raking; leaf and garbage removal; playground equipment maintenance; sports field maintenance; minor carpentry work and general building maintenance.
  • Chainsaw experience/certification may be an asset.
  • Arena experience with ice resurfacer and basic refrigeration experience may be an asset.
  • Knowledge of turf, sports field maintenance and related equipment is preferred.
  • Experience with operation of small equipment (mowers, trimmers, brush chippers, etc.) and heavier equipment (trucks, trailers, tractors etc.) is preferred.

Cemetery positions:

  • Experience working in a cemetery environment is preferred.
  • Grounds maintenance such as: pruning trees and shrubs; grass cutting; trimming; digging; raking; leaf and garbage removal; minor carpentry work and general building maintenance.
  • Chainsaw experience/certification may be an asset.
  • Experience with operation of small equipment (mowers, trimmers, brush chippers, etc.) and heavier equipment (trucks, backhoe/loaders, tractors etc.) is preferred.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 OSS Diploma or equivalency in Ontario
  • 18 Years of age or older
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Minimum one year work related experience
  • Knowledge of operating job-related equipment
  • Valid Class G Driver’s License. or higher (proof of license is required upon offer of employment)
  • Valid Police Information Check is required (must be dated within the last six month). (Proof of check required upon offer of employment)
  • First Aid, CPR and WHMIS training preferred (proof of training/certificate required)
  • Ability to deal effectively with the public
  • Ability to follow direction
  • Ability to meet the physical demands requirements of the position

Confirmation that you are physically able to perform the essential duties of the position, as assessed through our third party provider, prior to commencement in the position.
Current and valid Police Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check to be provided prior to commencement in this position.
Proof of your current and valid certificate(s) and/or educational qualifications.
Valid DZ driver's license
Valid G driver's license.
Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training certificate from the Ministry of Labour. (may be obtained post offer)

Your compensation

This position is located within our CUPE 32 (outside workers) compensation schedule and the hourly rate of pay is as follows (2024 Rate):
Starting Rate: $24.65
Returning 2nd season rate: $25.39 (must meet criteria for returning employees)
Returning 2+ season rate: $26.15 (must meet criteria for returning employees)
