Your future role on our team

BBA is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer for mine process plants to support our continued growth Central Canada. The selected candidate will play a key role in all phases of engineering projects from front end-studies through to field implementation with a focus on detailed engineering. As a senior member of the mechanical engineering team, the candidate will be responsible for ensuring technical quality, developing new business opportunities, and fostering team development.

With us, you'll get the opportunity to:

  • Perform high level engineering on major mechanical packages such as: crushing and grinding circuits, flotation circuits, leaching circuits, dewatering, heavy machinery, conveyors, and pump systems.
  • Develop mechanical scopes of work, budgets, and proposals.
  • Ensure that work complies with budgets, schedules, estimates and established procedures.
  • Lead mechanical scope on conceptual design studies, pre-feasibility studies, feasibility studies, and detailed engineering.
  • Supervise or carry out design calculations and ensure that plans meet guidelines as well as legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Assign and review the work of junior engineers (engineers-in-training), technicians and drafters assigned to projects and assess technical scope.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with clients to define their needs.
  • Present technical information, concepts or study results.
  • Verify and produce files for tenders, specifications and other technical documents.
  • Occasionally supervise contractors on site.
  • Be a key team member for small to major brownfield/greenfield mining projects
  • Participate in site visits, inspections, condition assessments, commissioning, and testing.
  • Provide mentorship and coaching of junior/intermediate engineers, actively sharing knowledge, and supporting the enhancement of skills within the team
  • Foster a culture of having fun at work while producing high quality professional deliverables.

Overview of certifications and job requirements:

  • Proven track record with strong technical skills as a Mechanical Engineer on mineral process plant projects
  • Experience in base and precious metals: asset
  • Ability to interpret PFD's and process design criteria from process engineering, oversee plant layouts, mechanical equipment selection, technical bid evaluation and validation and pump sizing
  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 20+ years of relevant engineering experience in the mining sector with a preference for recent 10+ years in consulting
  • Must be a registered P.Eng in Ontario, Canada
  • Valid driver's license
  • Available for site work (3-10 days at a time)
  • Site experience considered a strong asset
