Supervisor, Materials

The Supervisor, Materials/Shipping position, under general supervision, determine the quantity and order date for materials needed to meet the master production schedule. Additional responsibilities include initiating purchase or production requisitions as appropriate.

Performance Expectations

· Manage all material/shipping personnel.

· Responsible for accurate inventory numbers.

· Responsible for monthly reconciliation.

· Accurately forecast of monthly sales.

· Minimize transportation costs for outgoing shipments and incoming materials.

· Develop strategy towards meeting objectives with respect: effective utilization of plant capacity; ensure customer scheduling requirements are met; monitor capacity to ensure co-ordination between production schedules and shipping schedules; and customer requirements.

· Organizing material requirements as to; keep the purchased inventory and supplies to a low level without slowing down production with waiting time; optimize sources to obtain best costs; monitor supplier compliance performance as to delivery, service and costs; control work-in-process and finished goods inventory; and monitor production use and scrap factor.

· Monitor consigned material flow in consideration of; floor space usage; ensure first one in, first one out; and accommodate lot control traceability.

· Plan work processes and schedules to ensure full use of all equipment and workers.

· Total and approve estimates and invoices for materials ordered.

· Calculate extensions, discounts for volume purchases and taxes.

· Select suppliers for fabrication materials, tools and shop supplies.

· Coordinate work processes for material handlers, machinists and others to ensure customers' orders are completed on time.

· Create and distribute shift schedule for the shipping and receiving department.

· Schedule transportation for shipping materials.

· Participate in inventory control and inventory counts as required by Materials Manager

· Work closely with cycle counter and materials coordinator to maintain inventory levels and process timely delivery of goods.

· Preparation of shipments, i.e., packaging, carrier, inspection clearance, customs documents, and shipping documents.

· Report and record any damage on incoming material.

· Maintain all Lot Control and Shipping & Receiving Documents.

· Maintain dock, racking, and forklift audits on a regular basis.

· Track and maintain forklift certification as required by law.

· Work with and schedule deliveries using Linamar Transportation as often as possible.

· Schedule employee reviews as per Linamar requirements

· Interview, hire, promote or terminate employees as needed.

Credentials

· Graduate of Certified Materials Management Program.

· Minimum two years of previous experience.

· Knowledge of NAFTA.

· Ability to use basic computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

· Ability to read safe handling procedures and hazard warnings on labels of products and identify hazard symbols and risk phrases on Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System labels ensuring proper handling of materials.

· Able to use computer-operated machinery such as print delivery slips using computerized printers.

· Demonstrate communication skills to discuss daily operations with co-workers and material properties and other technical matters with material handlers, engineers, manufacturers' representatives and other specialists.
