Job Description Summary

The Test Engineer will work with a cross-functional team including hardware design, systems engineering, software development, program, and project management to deliver best in class products for the global market. This position will be responsible for testing Protection relay and Networking products, as well as for contributing on the test automatization in the V&V (verification and validation) process. The V&V team has a key role in the R&D area, testing the products with a "customer view", including functional and application tests.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ensures the quality of software products by creating and applying Embedded Software (Firmware) quality tests to a feature, set of features, or whole feature area. Works independently and contributes to the immediate team or to other teams across businesses.
  • Develop, update, and define test strategies, plan tests, and execute test activities with the aim of improving the test strategy and the test management process based on the defined and determined critical metrics.
  • Perform regression testing to verify that bug fixes and new features do not introduce defects elsewhere in the product.
  • Utilize QA procedures and methodologies where applicable.
  • Developing in-depth knowledge of technical discipline and analytical thinking and technical experience to execute policy/strategy.
  • Uses good judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters to address more complicated issues. Uses technical experience and analytical thinking to solve tasks. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own teams to arrive at decisions.
  • Collaborate and communicate with different teams and follow standard procedures to escalate unresolved issues and defects to appropriate internal departments.
  • In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. In-depth understanding of how the work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering, BSc in Computer Science, or a similar field.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in the field of protection relay testing and quality assurance.

Desired Characteristics

  • Available to work onsite.
  • Knowledge in testing concepts with good understanding in Manual testing and automated testing.
  • Knowledge of capturing and diagnosing logs for any application crashes. Defect logging and defect tracking until bug closure. Using tools like Jira for bug tracking.
  • Knowledge of QA methodologies, tools, and processes.
  • Knowledge/experience in Power Systems (electrical substations).
  • Knowledge of C/C++ programming in an embedded environment, C#, visual programming.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (Shell, tcl, pearl, python.), as well as prototyping environments in Octave.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of network communication protocols including Modbus, DNP3, IEC 60870-5-103, IEC61850.
  • Practical knowledge of defect tracking tools and test management systems.
  • Excellent collaborator with strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience with performance and/or cyber security testing.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver innovative ideas for products and processes.
  • Master's degree.
