JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Senior Project Manager based in Niagara, ON.

Reporting to the Director, Asset and Project Management, the Senior Project Manager, is responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and delivery of industrial construction projects within the Sir Adam Beck generating station, one of the largest and most iconic hydroelectric generating stations in North America. You will lead a team of project managers and construction managers in the management of a $250M complex and multi-discipline project portfolio. Your expertise in project management methodologies, leadership skills, and ability to navigate through challenges will be crucial in driving successful project outcomes. The Senior Project Manager plays a crucial role in driving operational excellence, optimizing processes, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Develop comprehensive project plans outlining scope, objectives, deliverables, timelines, resources, and budget.
  • Lead a portfolio of 25-30 projects with an annual spend of $50M.
  • Define project tasks and allocate resources accordingly.
  • Lead and motivate cross-functional project teams to achieve project goals.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and coaching to project managers and team members.
  • Provide staffing oversight for workgroup including succession planning, hiring and development plans.
  • Drive initiatives to enhance employee engagement, morale, and development, fostering a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels and communicate project status, progress, risks, and issues effectively.
  • Address stakeholder concerns and manage expectations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards and best practices throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Conduct regular quality reviews and assessments to identify areas for improvement.
  • Implement corrective actions to address quality issues and ensure deliverables meet or exceed expectations.
  • Manage project budgets, expenses, and financial forecasts.
  • Optimize resource allocation to maximize efficiency and productivity.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project management processes and methodologies.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in project management.
  • Work closely with Senior Manager peers to effectively coordinate work across the organization.
  • Set strategies for long term business performance and be accountable for work group objectives with support from the Niagara region leadership team.
  • To manage in a manner consistent with corporate values and behaviours.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil Engineering) or a College diploma with specific industry experience.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification considered an asset.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5-10 years of proven experience in project management, with a track record of successfully delivering complex projects on time and within budget.
  • 5+ years of supervisory/people management experience, managing teams of project managers.
  • Strategic leader with ability to drive new initiatives, maintenance programs.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite including MS Word, Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint
  • Ability to collaborate closely with Senior Manager peers.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and communication skills.
