Who we are

The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) works at the centre of the province’s power system, ensuring Ontarians have access to reliable and cost-effective electricity when and where they need it. We operate the province’s electricity grid 24/7, design, run and oversee the wholesale electricity markets, and plan and prepare to meet Ontario’s electricity needs – now and into the future.


The opportunity

Provide coordination and leadership to support all engagement processes and mechanisms necessary to the implementation of the Market Renewal Program (MRP), to ensure an efficient and effective consultation process for all stakeholders to enable informed decision-making. The individual will apply change management best practices to ensure effective engagement in order to prepare stakeholders to adopt and use new processes and tools delivered by MRP. They will also design and implement MRP communication and training plans, including the development of written communications, marketing and promotional materials, mailings and training materials and reports. Assist senior staff in administering policies and giving advice that covers the broad field of MRP Readiness activities. Represent the Program at a variety of events relating to the customer education program including meetings, round tables, information sessions and conferences. Source, select, organize, write, review and edit communications materials and reports for the various audiences. Work with Information Technology (IT) and internal communications groups to plan, design, develop, deploy and maintain external web site(s) and Intranet site content.

What you'll do

  • Provide support in the design of customized engagement strategies and/or plans for all stages of MRP requiring input from stakeholders. Provide for varying levels/methodologies of engagement based on the significance of the issue and its impact on internal /external stakeholders.
  • Implement and manage effective engagement processes and mechanisms with stakeholders to ensure engagement activities are integrated and incorporated in the project schedule. Influence stakeholders to ensure they provide the necessary endorsements and support to MRP.
  • Coordinate and support the management and implementation of engagement strategies and plans by working closely with MRP staff and internal business groups. Develop plans/procedures/documentation to support engagement activities relating to MRP project implementation.
  • Implement engagement processes for all MRP-related engagement mechanisms within the IESO (Market Renewal Readiness Committee, Subject Matter Experts consultations, Technical Meetings, Implementation Working Group Meetings, training/education materials and sessions, status updates to business groups/external stakeholders, etc.).
  • Apply change management best practices and models (e.g. ADKAR) to move stakeholders through change, ensuring impacted stakeholders are prepared to adopt and use new processes and tools delivered by MRP.
  • Implement processes to ensure timely, accessible, accurate, and coordinated communication in support of engagement, to ensure they meet project and stakeholder needs. Ensure stakeholders have timely, accessible, and accurate information sufficient to understand the implications of alternative courses of action. Ensure that MRP decisions and the rationale for decisions are communicated to, and understood by different stakeholders.
  • Actively encourage stakeholders impacted by, and with an interest in, MRP to participate in the process. Establish and maintain long-lasting relationships with key influencers in key stakeholders groups in order to identify and recommend strategies, products and training to ensure their readiness needs are met.
  • Establish and implement mechanisms for evaluating and reporting on the effectiveness of engagement and training activities and recommend changes to processes, systems and procedures as necessary.
  • Analyze and follow-up on feedback from internal/external consultations to identify trends and to ensure continuous improvement to MRP processes taking into consideration stakeholder and overall corporate needs.
  • Provide or arrange for expert facilitation skills at consultation meetings to provide a fair, open, and transparent process for all stakeholders to provide input to MRP decisions.
  • Perform other duties as required.

What you need to succeed

Education:

  • Requires a good knowledge of business administration or commerce to plan, propose improvements, coordinate, and support the management of engagement processes and mechanisms across the company.
  • Requires strong communication skills to deal with stakeholders, subject matter experts, senior management, and various working group members, and to establish and manage timely, accurate and coordinated communication in support of engagement processes.
  • This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the successful completion of a four-year University education in the appropriate field, or the equivalent.

Experience:

  • Requires experience within the company to acquire sound insight and understanding of all facets of its operations.
  • Requires experience to acquire an understanding of company objectives, policies, procedures and practices, the legislative and regulatory requirements governing the Ontario Electricity sector, and the various business operations as they relate to company commitments.
  • Requires experience in the analysis of policies, decisions, corporate business plans and assessment of current issues in order to provide support in the design of engagement strategies, plans and processes.
  • Requires experience in project administration to acquire a good understanding of management reporting, interrelationships of teams with clients, contract terms, conditions, regulations, etc., associated with the ICA project.
  • Requires experience to acquire a thorough understanding of the role of consultations development, involvement and impact, to deal with special interest groups, the design and delivery of stakeholder initiatives.
  • A period of over 8 years, up to and including 10 years experience is considered necessary to gain this experience.

The IESO offers a hybrid work model program to most of our employees, based on business needs. Individuals participating in the program can work an average of three days per week remotely within Ontario. It also offers three flex weeks when individuals can work remotely within Ontario . When working in the office, you will be located at our Oakville, ON location.
