JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, motivated, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Authorized Senior Advisor.

Reporting to the SMR Operations & Maintenance Manager, this position is responsible to provide technical and product expertise, advice and guidance, assessment, problem solving, and coaching on the procedure development process, including process improvements and implementation of strategies to ensure procedural product quality.

Key accountabilities include developing and monitoring methods to track procedure quality for the range of site procedures based on industry standards (WANO/INPO/IEEE/IAEA/EPRI etc) and ensure corrective actions are in place for identified related deficiencies. Assuming the role of site procedure development subject matter expert (SME) for quality, scheduling and reporting processes. Facilitating corporate-level working groups, peer teams, corrective action review board (CARB), Owners Groups, etc.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Responsible for bringing in depth knowledge of nuclear power plant operation, including: system interface, licensing, work planning, regulations, engineering principals, etc..
  • Act as a coach and facilitator to create and sustain an engaged, inclusive and empowered team.
  • Conduct the development of strategic work programs and business plans including reporting of costs incurred versus budget, communications and reporting on human performance issues, Staffing deployment plans within the Operations organization and assignment to other work groups or projects; Program strategies related to the plant systems and equipment using expertise in assessing and monitoring the effectiveness and currency of divisional methods, procedures, standards and practices; Analysis of the effectiveness and currency of Plant Status Control Programs, Work Protection Programs, Corrective Action Programs and Staffing Strategies; Prepare reports and recommend strategies to optimize performance.
  • Create and maintain safe and healthy working environment to promote all aspects of OPGs nuclear safety and security traits enables all participants to provide diverse perspectives to maximize a teams output.
  • Be responsible for the development and delivery of training courses/lectures and simulator demonstrations on all subjects associated with Training, including Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) training at levels required to qualify them for specific positions.
  • Prepare written lessons and deliver lectures on station specific systems and equipment. Design and conduct testing for in-house examinations. This includes simulator set-up, preparation of marking guides, performance assessment for both written and simulator-based examinations of initial authorization candidates.
  • Lead or participate in teams to support OPG's goals and deliverables, with a focus on operations. Take a leadership role in special teams such as Root Cause Teams and Significant Issues Resolution Teams. Provide guidance, instruction, and direction to team members, and report project status. Identify training and development needs of staff.
  • Assist with the rollout of new material, equipment, and programs following approvals and guidelines provided by Manager.
  • Using operating experience and the knowledge of industry best practices, identify, analyze, and prioritize deficiencies and monitor the effectiveness and currency of divisional procedures, standards, practices, forms, manuals, support documentation, etc.
  • Recommend changes, prepare justifications, and prepare new or revised documents, as required. Carry out plant tours on a routine basis to assess procedures and standards are being followed, identifying non-compliance to same, implementing "on-the-spot" correction and initiating a Station Condition Record (SCR) as necessary.
  • Maintain a current awareness of changes to station systems and operating documentation. Monitor station significant events and incorporate lessons learned into department or section.
  • Participate in decisions regarding the evaluation of station operation. Support stations with application of standards, policies and procedures including interface with simulator services and training programs.
  • Be responsible for the preparation, validation and maintenance of department or section documentation (policies, standards, expectations, procedures, etc).

QUALIFICATIONS

  • This role involves a certification / license at a Nuclear Power plant and will involve having a working knowledge of a BWR power plant
  • Previously Certified by a regulator to operate a Nuclear Power Plant
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to coordinate across multiple teams
  • The ability to deliver and assess training and lead simulations
  • Previous experience as a Senior Reactor Operator or Reactor Operator is an asset
