Are you interested in utilizing your strong analytical and research skills to support activities that identify emerging environmental issues, evaluate risk and visualize sectoral compliance and enforcement trends? If yes, please consider this exciting opportunity with Environmental Investigations and Enforcement Branch, Forensic Services and Intelligence Section.

Effective January 1st, 2024 the salary range for this position is $1,289.12 to $1,534.12 per week in compliance with OPSEU Unified Bargaining Unit collective agreement provisions. The new rates, effective retroactive to January 1, 2024, were recently confirmed and dates for implementation of the new salary rates are still to be determined.

NOTE: The location of the vacancy is at 5775 Yonge St., Toronto. However, consideration will be given to the successful candidate to allow them to work out of one of the following MECP Offices (location will be based on the successful candidate's current home or work address and operational needs).

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:
• undertake research and analysis to assist in environmental risk assessments and identification of new areas of environmental concerns and compliance trends within priority sectors
• identify, collect and collate industrial, environmental and compliance data from various internal and external sources for further examination
• prepare specialized reports, tables and charts and present findings and/or issues of interest to a variety of audiences
• undertake quality control of information to assess accuracy and completeness of records
• Stay informed on new developments in data pertaining to environmental issues and conduct testing on new technologies

How do I qualify?

Research and Analytical Skills:

• You have demonstrated analytical and conceptual skills to assemble data and evaluate information, conduct analyses, and identify issues, anomalies and concerns
• You can effectively evaluate information and report on trends, identify priority and/or emerging issues
• You have an awareness of how to access to a range of information to conduct research and assist in program intelligence development.
• You have knowledge of a research and analytical techniques to provide high quality data analysis and diagnostics support
• You have attention to detail skills to provide high quality results

Technical Knowledge and Computer Skills

•You have knowledge of, and ability to interpret environmental legislation (e.g., Environmental Protection Act, Ontario Water Resources Act, Pesticides Act, Environmental Assessment Act) regulations and guidelines
•You have proficiency using various computer software programs and analytical tools (e.g., word processing, databases, spreadsheets, dashboards, graphics, etc.) to compile, analyze data and report on data/information
•You are aware of current information technology, data management methods and tools including familiarity with spatial software
• You have knowledge of analytical and statistical methodologies

Communication, Interpersonal and Organizational Skills

•You have written and verbal communication skills to prepare a variety of written reports and correspondence
• You have interpersonal skills to liaise with internal and external stakeholders with tact and diplomacy and build effective relationships
• You can communicate technical information to a diverse audience, sharing your analytical findings and recommendations
• You can plan and manage your work in a fast-paced environment and flexibility to adjust to shifts in priorities.
