The Role:

Egis' Environmental Division has been recognized over the past 30+ years as providing high-level deliverables and advice to a variety of clients, throughout Ontario and the rest of Canada. With projects ranging from Phase I/One and II/Two ESAs, remediations, and hydrogeological assessments to complex landfill studies, heli-access drilling, and mining support for emerging sectors, we have found that empowering our staff, even at the most junior levels, has allowed for significant growth in the environmental market.

This is a part-time Summer position and is an opportunity to build your career within a supportive and ambitious environment.

The ideal candidate will have the following background, skills and attributes:

  • Enrolled in or recent graduate from a university or college program in Environmental Engineering, Geological Engineering, Environmental Science, Earth Sciences, or Biology;
  • Motivated to learn within a team of dedicated professionals;
  • Valid Ontario class G driver's licence and access to a vehicle;
  • Ability to travel throughout the Ottawa area for work assignments; and
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collection of drinking water samples from school sites, beginning early in the morning prior to school operating hours;
    • The position does not have a guaranteed number of hours per week. It is estimated that approximately 25-30 hours per week will be required to complete the water sampling assignment, with the potential to work up to and above 40 hours per week depending on the successful candidate's availability and the requirements of other projects.
  • Sample handling and submission to an analytical laboratory;
  • Record keeping and assisting in project scheduling and reporting tasks;
  • Other possible field duties, including but not limited to: soil and groundwater sampling, surface water sampling, drilling supervision, Phase I ESA site visits, erosion and sediment control inspections, test pit excavation, etc.;
  • Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments;
  • Report Writing;
  • Coordinating and completing field reviews for environmental inspection and testing;
  • Complete indoor water sampling at taps according to sampling and floor plans;
  • Complete Chain of Custody forms and deliver samples to the specified lab; and
  • May assist with other environmental projects as needed, including but not limited to: data entry, basic research, and basic reporting.
