JOB SUMMARY

As a member of the Distribution Operations team, the Manager, Control Room is responsible for the integrity of the electrical distribution system supplying the majority of customers in the City of Ottawa on a 24 / 7 basis. The Manager, Control Room is also responsible for the efficient recovery of electrical supply and maintaining quality electrical service to Hydro Ottawa's customers.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Optimum staff effectiveness in a 24/7 shift work environment

  • Manage staff members including development and training, recruitment, selection, and performance management and provide individual and group coaching as required

  • Ensure the safety of employees and the protection of the public in the day-to-day operations, and ensure that contractors adhere to corporate safety standards

  • Ensure corporate vision and direction is effectively communicated to staff

  • Ensure compliance with IESO related legislation

  • Provide advice to the Director, System Operations and Grid Automation on matters related to the safe operation and the short and long-term viability of the electrical distribution system

  • Know and fulfill your responsibilities as an Asset Service Provider as described in the Hydro Ottawa Strategic Asset Management Plan. As it relates to the role:

  • Define and manage the strategies, standards, operational planning, maintenance planning, and capital planning of Hydro Ottawa's assets; and

  • Efficiently implement operational plans, maintenance plans and capital works plans for Hydro Ottawa assets.

  • Continuously review and implement human resource planning by selecting staff, ensuring appropriate training is provided, delegating tasks and assignments, defining goals, communicating feedback on performance and ensuring strict adherence to all health and safety standards and other applicable laws and regulations

  • Accurate gathering and correlation of Ontario Energy Board required metrics and compliance with all service level agreements

  • Develop and maintain relationships with bulk power system suppliers (Hydro One & IESO)

  • Develop and maintain relationships with Mutual Aid partners ensuring integrity of program

  • Ensure compliance with all related connection agreements

  • Promote a "Due Diligence" philosophy, section wide

  • Perform "Incident Command Centre" Manager duties during a Level One response event

  • Perform "Emergency Operations Centre" Restoration Director duties during a Level Two response event

  • Perform other duties as required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university

  • Be, or be able to become, a Professional Engineer licensed in the Province of Ontario

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in operations; or

  • Certified Engineering Technician or Technologies with a minimum of 5 years of experience in operations; or

  • A journeyperson in an electrical trade with 15 years' experience, 5 years in a supervisory position

  • Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements

  • Ability to plan, conduct and report on studies and to develop recommendations based on those studies

  • Ability to use specialized project management softwareStrong computer skills; proficient in the use of office productivity and collaboration tools preferably Google Workspace

  • English essential, both oral and written; Bilingualism (French/English) considered an asset

This is a management group opportunity and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.

Hydro Ottawa offers a Hybrid Work Model. Hybrid work is position specific, the details of which the hybrid model will be discussed with successful candidates.

Pay Range Minimum:

$100,989.68

Pay Range Maximum:

$151,539.70

This position is eligible for variable pay
