Job Description Summary

As part of our GE Peterborough rotating machines renewal parts team, you will play a significant role in serving our customers by providing spare parts and technical solutions for a global fleet of GE large industrial motors and generators. GE has been producing rotating electrical equipment for more than 130 years, producing machines up to 100,000 HP. Our machines are found in a variety of critical applications, including marine, industrial, and power generation.

You will develop and coordinate engineering & technical designs and modeling solutions for the Renewal Parts team & suppliers by working closely with external CAD design providers to meet our customer's needs in retrofits, upgrades, and spare parts.

The successful candidate will report to the rotating machines Renewal Parts team leader.

Job Description

Role Summary/Purpose

As part of our Renewal Parts team in GE Power Conversion - Rotating Machines Peterborough of GE Vernova, you will play a significant role in helping serve our customers by providing spare parts and technical support. GE has been producing rotating electrical equipment for more than 130 years, and our scope covers the global fleet of GE Large AC and DC Motors and Generators operating in various industrial and power generation sectors such as marine, metals, mining, nuclear & hydro, oil & gas, and pulp & paper.

You will provide engineering design support to the Renewal Parts regarding quotes, orders, and project executions as well as interact closely with customers and external suppliers to define technical solutions to meet our customer's needs. You will develop and coordinate engineering & technical designs and modeling solutions by working closely with external CAD design providers to meet our customer's needs in retrofits, upgrades, and spare parts.

The successful candidate will report to the Rotating Machines Renewal Parts Team Leader.

Essential Responsibilities:

As a Design Execution Coordinator in Renewal Parts team, you will work independently and interact closely with Renewal Parts services specialists, project managers, suppliers, external CAD design providers, and fellow engineers in mechanical, electrical, insulations, and controls engineering disciplines to:

  • Define component design parameters using design inputs (engineering instructions, design standards, automation, reference designs etc.), Layout and model components and assemblies, give instructions and compile packages for external design providers, including drawing markups, documents, reference drawings for the creation of final deliverables such as bill of materials and drawing packages.

  • Manage creation and approval of drawings and bill of materials throughout the design cycle

  • Actively participate in continuous improvement projects to reduce re-work and improve cycle time and design hours. Lead and assist in the preparation of a systematic project plan that outlines the design execution strategy.

  • Identify specific parts required by the customer based on part descriptions and legacy design data.

  • Provide technical guidance and design supports during the manufacturing, testing, and shipment of components and assemblies.

  • Analyze and validate material and process equivalencies to overcome obsolescence challenges for legacy designs as needed

Qualifications:

Required

  • Competency in effectively applying technical design, quality, and manufacturing knowledge to design various components & assemblies from manufacturer's and customer's point of view.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and documentation, and communicate effectively with team members, customers, and external suppliers.

Preferred

  • Professional and technical experience in design, modeling, creating drawings and bills of materials (example, 3~5 years or more)
  • Professional work experience with relevant technical knowledge, experience, and education (example, Technologist Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical technology).
  • Expertise in 3D and 2D design tools: Creo and AutoCAD preferred
  • Expertise in BoM and PLM: Teamcenter preferred.
  • Proficiency in medium/high voltage rotating electric machines and components design with background knowledge in various topics, including electromagnetics, insulations & electrical materials, instrumentations & accessories, and power electronics components & controls.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, especially in developing technical instructions.
  • Planning skills to mitigate risks and pivot when activities do not align with the committed objectives or timetables.
  • Experience in technical projects for
    • CANDU nuclear customers and other international nuclear power generation customers
    • Steel mill and Oil & Gas industries in Canada & US.
