JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic, and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Project Leader.

Reporting to the Manager Projects, this position is responsible for leading and administering the organization, coordination, and execution of assigned project(s) within multidisciplinary project portfolios. The Project Leader will lead matrix project execution teams, coordinate and be responsible for project documentation, and ensure appropriate project management and contract management governance is followed.

Role #1- Turbine/Generator Refurbishment: The Pickering Turbine Generator Refurbishment Project will include turbine / generator control system upgrade and modernization, and major T/G component replacement including all testing and commissioning to successfully return Pickering B to Service for reliable operation post refurbishment.

Role #2- Pickering Retube/Feeder/Steam Generator Replacement: The Pickering Retube/Feeder/Steam Generator Replacement Project will include project oversight of engineering and reactor refurbishment activities including pressure tubes, feeders, and steam generators.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Organize, coordinate, and control all stages of project management, in accordance with project management governance.

• Provide input into the preparation of project background information, contribute to scope and constructability reviews, and assist in the preparation of Business Case Submissions for project approval and the release of funds.

• Initiate and coordinate scopes of work (WBS), estimates, schedules, risk management plans, project management plans, gate packages, and contract performance specifications.

• Develop structures for estimating and controlling project cost and schedule. Gather input from stakeholder departments and agencies to ensure project requirements are captured and detailed in the estimate and execution plans.

• Co-ordinate and participate in the preparation of specifications, bid packages, evaluation of tenders, and purchasing recommendations.

• Monitor, evaluate and report on cost and schedule, and manage changes. Review cost variance reports, provide explanations and recommendations for disposition of variances, and take corrective actions when required.

• Evaluate project plans at every stage for project risk and develop mitigation plans. Resolve and assist with resolution of issues and problems, to ensure that project deliverables are achieved as per plan, and that any changes to scope, schedule, and cost are managed and approved in line with process and procedure.

• Manage and maintain communication with internal and external stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and agencies, and cooperate in exchange of relevant information as required to meet the project objectives. Arrange and chair meetings involving appropriate stakeholders with a given project.

• Maintain an awareness of technological advancements in project management, engineering, and construction fields. Review technical publications and other literature.

• Communicate with project management counterparts internally and externally to discuss views on improved processes, designs, products, methods, and techniques.
• Other Duties as Required

EDUCATION
• Four (4) year University Degree.
• Completion of post-secondary courses in project management and business economics, considered an asset.

QUALIFICATIONS
• 6 to 8 years of relevant work experience.
• Experience in managing projects of increasing complexity; multiple-contract, multiple stakeholder projects with schedule constraints.
• Relevant experience in the planning and execution of complex modification projects.
• Knowledge and experience working in nuclear power plant environments and with associated processes.
• Demonstrated experience leading complex issue resolution.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and manage construction vendors effectively.
• Knowledge and experience of OPG and or nuclear industry modification processes.
• Knowledge and experience related to turbine control / turbine mechanical / turbine hydraulic and generator excitation systems is an asset.
• Knowledge and experience executing turbine / generator major component, control and auxiliary system modifications is an asset.
• Knowledge and experience related to reactor refurbishment activities including pressure tubes, feeders, and steam generators.
• Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a flexible hybrid office environment.
