- The position is headquartered in St. Catharine's, however, there may be flexibility for the successful candidate to work from other MTO offices across the province.

You will contribute to the achievement of team goals by:

• Leading a team of professionals engaged in the resolution of claims
• Providing senior-level strategic engineering expertise for the development and implementation of creative management processes, systems and training to avoid and resolve claims
• Representing the ministry on internal/external committees and partnerships with our stakeholders to gain consensus for ministry initiatives and negotiate arrangements to resolve complex issues
• Developing work plans and organizing workload assignments, hiring staff, developing performance standards and managing performance

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• You are a Professional Engineer, licensed with the Association of Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).

Leadership Skills

• Experience managing a technical team to deliver results.
• Ability to foster organizational capacity through inclusive, positive, and values based leadership
• Capacity to navigate complex issues and provide strategic direction
• Sound judgement and political acuity skills to provide advice and guidance to senior management.
• Ability to ensure compliance with all relevant legislative statutes, collective agreements, government policies, and ministry directives related to services.

Technical Knowledge:

• Advanced knowledge of engineering theory, principles and practices of civil engineering, and contract law as they relate to highway maintenance, construction, and engineering consultant services.
• Strategic expertise to develop policies, procedures and systems to support the avoidance and resolution of claims.

Communication and Stakeholder Relationship Management Skills:

• Excellent negotiation and consultation abilities to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve complex claims issues
• Effective communication and presentation skills to advise senior management and establish relationships
• Proven communication, conflict management and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain professional working relationships.

Planning, Analytical and Problem Solving Skills and Abilities

• Strong planning, organizational, and project management skills to support the implementation of division priorities and decisions
• Superior analytical and problem-solving skills to analyze complex engineering claims
