At SMS Equipment our General Supervisor, Mining is responsible for leading a team of career trades people who exceed customer expectations and demonstrate personal craftmanship in everything they do. We are looking for a leader who will bring their own insight, experience and positive influence to the team.​ This position is in Timmins, ON.

The shift rotation for this position will start out as a 5x2 with the understanding the schedule will move to a 14x14.

The salary range for this position is $120,000 - $125,000.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Oversees shop facilities and service operations by ensuring operational requirements are met by supervising, coordinating and scheduling the activities of trades people. Prepares service quotes for both internal and external customers. Review work orders.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities include supporting and developing staff by providing or arranging training on assigned tasks and tracking their training. Review schedules to ensure trades people are allocated correctly and each department has the support they require. Implementing new procedures and introducing new policies.
  • Customer Service is provided by assisting customers with service information and resolving service problems by providing solutions and following up to ensure resolution. Serve as a back up to the Service Manager with the customer.

Qualifications include:

The incumbent will have a minimum of 5 years' experience as a qualified Heavy Equipment Technician and 5-7 years' experience in a supervisory role in a Mining/Construction environment. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Additional qualifications include:

  • Requires Red Seal Journeyman level certification.
  • Thorough knowledge of maintenance and repair of mining equipment.
  • Supervisory experience in an industrial environment is a requirement.
  • Ability to oversee and coordinate a large shop operation.
  • Must be an organized individual, self-motivated and a self-starter.
  • Knowledge of OH&S acts and regulations and equipment inspection requirements.
  • Valid Class 5/G drivers license
