What You Will Do

Reporting to the Director of Engineering Design, the Chief Engineer, Geotechnical is responsible for planning, directing, delegating, supervising, managing resources, conceptualizing, coordinating and overseeing all activities of the Geotechnical & Geoenvironmental Design Section. You will organize, prioritize and oversee work to ensure the safety and security, technical accuracy, adequacy and timely completion of all geotechnical & geoenvironmental designs in its planning, development, production, approval and release of engineering documents for tendering and construction support of new construction, expansion and renovation of the various multimodal transit-related facilities, structures and equipment. In addition, you will act as subject matter expert representing the TTC on engineering related matters, analyze and review TTC projects designed by consultants as well as examine and evaluate proposed real estate development applications for coordination and impact to existing TTC properties, infrastructure and/or protected provisions. The successful incumbent will establish, develop, categorize, maintain, initiate updates and approve releases of TTC Design Standards (Design Manuals, Master Specifications, Standard & Directive Drawings) and TTC Developers Guide, for internal and external design development purposes, as well as PSOS (Project Specific Output Specification) for design-build projects. May be required to work outside of normal working hours to meet objectives and deadlines or to respond to emergency calls.

What Skills Will you Bring?

• Expert knowledge of current/relevant geotechnical & geoenvironmental engineering principles, methods, practices, engineering systems and concepts, including designated substance surveys, construction noise and vibration, waste disposal and indoor air sampling for the design and construction of transit facility major underground (subway box, tunnel, station) and above ground (station, car house, bus garage, maintenance shop, electrical substation, bridge) structures.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the Engineering Department's other disciplines.
• Extensive knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including but not limited to Ontario Building Code (OBC), the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) legislation and TTC Design Standards.
• In-depth knowledge of project management planning and delivery concepts, practices and methods.
• Comprehensive knowledge of business administration, fiscal and human resources policies, and legislation/regulations regarding TTC system wide safety, security and employment.
• Sound knowledge of software applications typically used for geotechnical & geoenvironmental design analysis and calculations.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

• University degree in Geological or Civil Engineering, or the equivalent, combined with experience with geotechnical & geoenvironmental engineering systems as it pertains to multimodal transit systems and related facilities.
• Mandatory registration as a licensed Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
• Eligible to register as a Qualified Person under MECP for Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments and Excess Soil Management.
• Must have or rapidly acquire knowledge of Engineering Department and TTC-wide organizational structure, operations, functions, policies and procedures applicable to the work performed.
• Must obtain and maintain Subway/SRT Rule Book training certification.
