Based in Toronto or Vancouver, the Manager, Health & Safety will report to the Director of Environment and Health & Safety. Ensuring implementation of the health and safety program and collaborating on the indoor environmental building risks programs will be key priorities for the Manager, Health & Safety. They will work with the multiple internal stakeholders to meet desired program outcomes. This position will provide the opportunity to work in a fun, innovative, fast paced and highly rewarding team setting.

Responsibilities

Key part of high performance Teams

With ~1200 employees with a majority working in properties, this role is key to making sure employees know how to work safely, that they are empowered to learn more and to be active participants in creating safe workspaces. In addition QuadReal supports a growing number of companies that operate real estate portfolios. The Manager Health & Safety will build relationships and help leaders across businesses to find ways to align policies, procedures and tools which are efficient, practical and drive continuous improvement.

Beyond compliance

Lead the Health & Safety program beyond compliance so employees are engaged and empowered to create safe workspaces across the organization.

  • Regularly assess Health & Safety training needs and find efficient, effective ways to deliver training to a diverse portfolio in scalable ways.
  • Build up capacity of reps, JHSC members, regional and national committee members to be more engaged and effective in their roles.

Leading programs

Update Health & Safety policies, procedures and programs to stay ahead of regulatory changes or changes in business approaches.

  • Oversee programs such as the Annual Job Hazard Assessments, Working Alone Program, Confined Spaces Inventory, JHSCs, etc.
  • Oversee a Portfolio for rotating OHS Audits annually, communicate results and items needing escalation.

Collaboratively Problem-Solve

Collaborate with key internal stakeholders to ensure a culture of continuous improvement and alignment with ISO 45,001:

  • Support EHS with risk management programs such as Asbestos, IEQ, and Legionella
  • Work Collaboratively with Human Resources to process workplace injury claims and ensure HR are adequately supported through the process.
  • Collaborate with the sustainability and communications teams, as needed for reporting and certification.

Performance Based

Deliver timely and accurate reporting on health and safety performance to relevant internal and external stakeholders. Develop dashboards of key performance metrics.

The Manager, Health & Safety may also be involved in other Sustainability or Environmental and Health & Safety initiatives, as required.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Proven record of building practical Health & Safety programs across diverse locations.
  • Experience collaborating with and influencing leaders on change management projects.
  • Proficiency in project management to stage and roll-out programs so they get good adoption.
  • 5+ years of on-the-job experience in a similar role with private or public organizations.
  • Proven track record of being results focused to consistently achieve and surpass business targets and objectives.
  • Ability to find the practical path forward that meets regulatory intent with the risks faced
  • Knowledge and experience in developing and implementing environmental and health and safety programs
  • Working knowledge of environmental and health and safety regulations across Canada, bonus if also has experience in the US.
  • Strong communication and relationship skills.
  • Excellent organizational and program management skills, high attention to details, and strong time-management abilities
  • Proficient in English, both written and oral, French language an asset.
  • Passionate about training others and supporting a culture of health, safety, and wellness in large organizations.
  • Available and able to travel occasionally, mostly within Canada.
