Job Summary:

Manager, Member Education & Committee Services

Division/Dept: Standards Membership and Services

The Manager, Member Services Education & Committee Services position defines, develops and delivers Standards Development-related educational/training programs and services for CSA members, standards development staff and key external interest groups. They create and implement CSA membership initiatives to meet the strategic objectives to address member recruitment, outreach, recognition and retention.

  • Responsible for managing the member programs (YP, consumer, students, DEI)

  • Develops, manages and delivers standards member training and other educational services

  • Supports activities related to recruitment, onboarding, engagement, retention and recognition of members

  • Engages with staff, members, and external interests to provide guidance and direction on standards development process and committee management

  • Outreaches to external interests to promote standards and address public queries

  • Supports in review of member database, monitoring and reporting

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Understanding the Business

  • Responsible for managing member programs, particularly in relation to developing and implementing initiatives for member recognition, recruitment and training. Supports and assists project managers with committee member recruitment, recognition and training initiatives

  • Manages and delivers member/chair training modules either in person or via Webex. This includes setting scheduled member training sessions throughout the year, providing ad-hoc specific training requirements upon requests from Program areas and compilation of all the member orientation and welcome materials

  • Develops the content for communication materials on Member Training programs. This includes member orientation materials, training aids, procedural documentations, presentations, website promotions and member correspondence

  • Conducts research and analysis of standards development education needs for committee members, chairs and staff that align with Directives Series 2 and Directives 3.1 Project Management Handbook. This includes identification of gaps in knowledge, skills, and competencies to further refine member training programs and new products such as games-based technology

  • Provides support and guidance on the following member activities

  • Member recruitment

  • Member on-boarding activities, issues, and processes

  • Membership monitoring and data integrity

  • Member development and training

  • Member recognition planning

  • DEI strategies

  • Liaises with committee members, external interests and standards development staff to help coordinate and facilitate outreach and networking links

Working Well with Others

  • Provides guidance on committee structure around matrix structure and categories, committee terms of reference and interpretation and application of rules governing standards development and committee management/participation..

  • Develops and maintains credibility and trust externally with a wide and diverse audience of key members and external interests.

  • Assists with customer, member and public queries on standards.

  • Assesses incoming committee membership requests from the public and existing members and directing these to the appropriate program area for consideration and suitable matching.

Delivering Results

  • Supports strategies, plans, and tactics to drive member growth, engagement and participation.

  • Manages member programs and services promoting diversity, inclusion, and equity throughout the membership and committee activities.

  • Actively engages in members recruitment and outreach, onboarding and onboarding, and training.

  • Develops and delivers training to members and standards staff, ensuring continuous learning and

  • Monitors, manages and reports on CSA membership, member data, engagement, feedback survey, complaints.

  • Ensures methodologies, operating procedures, tools and resources are in place for staff and members.

Preferred Education & Experience

  • Undergraduate University degree in Education, Business or, Certification in the field of educational design, adult education or, training & development

  • 5 years or more experience in a business or not-for-profit environment, with specific evidence of management skills

  • Knowledge and experience with membership and association issues

  • Knowledge of facilitation practices and public participation techniques

  • Knowledge and experience in association membership & committee operations

  • Knowledge of technical training around CSA business rules supporting our standards electronic tools such as eballoting, Members Only Area, Public Review, and member database management

  • Knowledge and skill in developing training & education programs, adult education programs, education materials

  • Knowledge of Standards Council of Canada accreditation policies

  • Strong knowledge of CSA Policies and Procedures around copyright, privacy, association bylaws, conflict of interest, competition laws and other legal matters impacting member participation

  • Excellent project management skills, ability to self-manage and to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Well-developed problem solving, consensus building and relationship management skills

  • Strong written, presentation and group facilitation skills with experience in training techniques

  • Strong communication skills both written and oral

  • Applicants with proficiency in French will be given special consideration.

This position requires regular attendance and punctuality in accordance with Company policies. Additionally, the ability to interact well with other employees and work overtime, as necessary, is required.
