Modern Niagara is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Project Manager to join our Major Projects team in Toronto, ON

As a Project Manager, you will play a crucial role in managing project budgets, schedules, and collaborating with cross-functional teams, including foremen, subcontractors, and vendors. Reporting to the Construction Manager, you'll be responsible for ensuring the successful completion of projects within the planning process while focusing on financial goals. The Project Manager serves as the primary contact with General Contractors and owners, promoting all aspects of Modern Niagara to clients throughout the building life cycle. This role involves a diverse set of responsibilities, including budgeting, procurement, administration, cost control, client relationship management, and adherence to safety standards.

Overview of Responsibilities:

  • Lead the creation of project budgets while ensuring alignment with quarterly KPI targets.
  • Participate in estimating turnover, preconstruction, and post-construction meetings.
  • Attend client and construction meetings, disseminating critical information to the workforce, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Complete monthly financial forecasting reports, actively participate in project status reviews, and contribute to pre-construction processes by reviewing contracts and determining project scope.
  • Maintain safety standards throughout projects. Attend job site progress walks, staying aware of project construction status. Apply the SMaC Recipe to daily tasks for effective project management.
  • Break out labor budget and review with Foremen. Communicate and confer with Foremen on labor progress, making financial judgments in monthly reviews on final labor hours.
  • Manage and coordinate the equipment and systems commissioning process.
  • Create purchase orders for suppliers and subcontractors. Prepare and update Work in Progress (WIP) forecast sheets on a monthly basis.

Education and Experience:

  • 5+ years of proven Project Manager experience in construction, demonstrating expertise in reading and interpreting construction drawings and documents.
  • Post-secondary degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, or equivalent field experience.
  • Knowledge of construction costs and budgets, showcasing a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of the construction process.
  • Ability to interpret site and building plans and specifications
  • Demonstrate excellent leadership skills, motivating teams effectively, and maintaining strong relationships with clients and subtrades.
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and skilled in using computerized scheduling packages.
  • Capable of working in both office and field environments with extensive interaction between management, technical, and mechanical employees.
  • Working knowledge of contract terms and conditions
  • General understanding of QA / QC as well as Health and Safety practices / requirements
  • Design/build experience is an asset
