DUTIES:
Reporting to the Senior Electronics Technician, this position will be responsible to assist with technical and technological communications requirements for Windsor Fire & Rescue Services. Performs installation, repairs and routine maintenance on radio communications equipment and associated hardware on fire apparatus, in the fire stations, in the Emergency Operations Centre and in the Emergency Communications Center. Assists with managing the corporate radio system including front line troubleshooting, fleet mapping and programming end user gear. Provides assistance to other city departments for radio communications requirements. Provides installation and maintenance for audio/visual warning devices on fire apparatus. Provides maintenance on electrical wiring and equipment in fire stations and fire apparatus including power generators, fire scene lighting and cabling equipment, power tools and other firefighter equipment. Provides maintenance on traffic preemption system. Assists in the maintenance of computer hardware in the fire stations and the Emergency Communications Center including the computer aided dispatch system. Provides support, assistance and acts as a liaison with municipal, provincial, federal and international partners for land and wireless phone requirements and repairs for the fire service. Will be expected to work in both an office environment and outdoors during all types of weather conditions and will respond to emergency scenes to perform electronic/electrical repairs on firefighter equipment at any time as per fire service procedures (rotating on call 24/7). Must be able to lift tools, equipment, materials and parts as required (will ask for assistance to lift heavy items in/out of van). Expected to remain up to date with applicable technological changes in department-related electronic fields. Must establish and maintain professional relations with various members of the civic staff, business organizations and residents of the City of Windsor. Will be mindful of and act professionally in accordance with the Windsor Fire & Rescue Services and City of Windsor Corporate policies. Will perform Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the Corporation's Health and Safety Program. Will perform other related duties as required.
