DUTIES:

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Fleet and Support Services, this position will be responsible for planning, scheduling, and supervising work carried out by transit employees and contractors as related to the inspection, maintenance and repair of Transit fleet and equipment. Directly supervises transit staff and contractors in fleet repair operations; Signs and authorizes repair orders; Assists in the preparation and control of the maintenance budget; Supervises staff, including recruitments, performance evaluations, discipline, training and development, and ongoing employee lost time reviews; Ensures familiarity and compliance with all federal/provincial safety legislation and corporate safety policies and procedures; Performs and signs off on equipment safety inspections; Initiates and monitors the preventative maintenance programs and ensures that work areas are properly and safely maintained; Researches and prepares reports and computer input data; Implements the refurbishing and minor body repairs on the fleet. Responsible for development and implementation of preventative maintenance programs for all areas of the garage operations; Monitors all stock requirements, and initiates and controls purchased materials and expenditures; Analyzes build/buy decisions; Interprets and implements collective agreement with respect to the maintenance area, ensuring that resources are utilized efficiently; Responsible for reports and information from the Fleet Management System; Operate and maintain all electronic transportation systems; Ensure all warranty claims are diagnosed and processed in an efficient and timely manner; Responsible for safeguarding and proper recording of inventory; Maintain amiable relations with our customers, the public and fellow staff; Replaces supervisors and Facilities Manager when required. Will perform Corporate Health and Safety duties as outlined in the Canada Labour Code Part II. Will perform other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a University Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or Engineering and a minimum of three year’s experience in an operating or technical environment; OR
  • Must have a College Diploma in Business Administration, Public Administration or Engineering and a minimum of five year’s experience in an operating or technical environment; OR
  • Must have a 310T Truck and Coach Technician Certificate of Qualification or equivalent and a minimum of seven year’s experience in an operating or technical environment;
  • Must have progressive responsible experience in personnel supervision, contract administration, budget control and performance monitoring in a computerized and unionized environment;
  • Must have proven technical, communication, interpersonal and supervisory skills;
  • Must have thorough knowledge of appropriate safety, labour and related federal and provincial legislation, regulations and standards;
  • Should have knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and knowledge of the hazards associated with the work;
  • Progression through the Management Windsor Program Certificate or a similar program is considered an asset;
  • Progression through the Art of Supervision Program Certificate or a supervisory program of a similar nature is considered an asset;
  • Experience in a unionized fleet environment would be considered as an asset;
  • Possession of propane (ICE-P) and natural gas (ICE-N) licenses will be considered an asset.
