The Lac La Ronge Indian Band is now accepting applications for the following Permanent Full-time Position, based out of Mikisiw Awasis Early Learning Centre in La Ronge, SK.

EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATOR - HOME VISITOR

The suitable candidates will be able to fulfill the following duties/responsibilities:

  • Conduct ASQ screens to help determine a program plan for each child.
  • Deliver Land Based and Woodland Cree programming using the curriculum provided.
  • Plan, prepare, and implement daily activities (indoor/outdoor) as they relate to current best practice and Woodland Cree Culture & Language.
  • Provide activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving appropriate to the development levels of the children.
  • Assess the developmental level of children through observation and documentation.
  • Be sensitive to individual children's differences and needs, and be willing to adjust the program and curriculum to meet those individual needs.
  • Lead children in activities by telling stories, teaching songs and demonstrating the use of simple musical instruments.
  • Prepare materials and assist children in using them.
  • Select books, equipment and other instructional materials appropriate for the early childhood program.
  • Interact with infants and children to encourage their involvement in activities.
  • Report progress and challenges with program supervisor.
  • Record necessary information pertinent to each child. Maintain ongoing developmental records for each child, including keeping records of all developing skills (physical, social, emotional, and cognitive).
  • Maintain attendance records of children participating in the program.
  • Continue professional development through attending workshops, conferences and other staff development.
  • Design and facilitate interactive parent and child literacy activities.
  • Maintain open, friendly, and cooperative relationship with each child's family and encourage their involvement in the program.
  • Assist with referrals to other organizations and agencies as required
  • Assist with other duties as requested.

The suitable candidates will possess the following qualifications/abilities:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent;
  • Must have Level 3 ECE (Early Childhood Educator) Diploma
  • Valid First Aid/CPR, WHIMIS and Food Safety Handler's Certificate is an asset;
  • Basic computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs;
  • Personal experience as parent or caregiver of infants and/or young children;
  • Ability to speak /understand Cree and/or knowledge of Cree Culture is an asset;
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and public relations skills;
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered;
  • Must have a valid Driver's License;
  • Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check and a Driver's Abstract.
